    Crossfit - there is nothing new under the sun...

    If you ever looked at old boxing workouts, or the way Roman Gladiators trained, old WWII 'commando' training you would see a lot of Crossfit elements. They all have lots of compound and dynamic exercises. 20 years ago Crossfit was called plyometrics in exercise physiology.

    The fundamental principals remain the same - compound, dynamic, functional exercises. Train as you fight.

    I think most folks here (and the Army and USMC) are interested in workouts that improve combat fitness. The Crossfit brand (in large part) addresses these needs. In combat, you rarely do a strength movement, rest, and then do some cardio. Instead, you must do a series of often maximum effort movements quickly dynamically, often quickly followed up by a completely different sort of movement, over a period of time. That is where the good old grass drill / gorilla drill comes from in military circles.
