Thier reasons for carrying them would make the AK series even less desirable than the M-4's. I'm not knocking your brother but lots of trash get said that is sometimes not even close to the truth. I say this as a vetreran of Iraq who has a brother currently in the Army on his 2nd tour of Trashkanistan.
He is NOT in the military....He works for the UN and they did not issue glocks.
but whatever...I did not mean to have a pissing match. Some guys here are WAY too uptight. There are OTHER countries that are NOT the USA that people live in. I was unaware that US law was binding to every US citizen no matter where they lived

you're right. Expecting people to tell the truth, stick to topics they have firsthand knowledge of, etc. makes people such stick-in-the-muds.

While some may be "WAY too uptight" it would also appear that some are not enough so.

Well I happen to know one of the heads of the U.N protection service in A'stan. As a matter of fact a good friend of mine was killed in A'stan last year working for the U.N trying to protect his people.

U.S law applies when the point of origin is from the U.S. So a firearm being sent to someone in Durkadurkastan absolutely is covered by ITAR. Anyways enough of all this. Please keep this discussion on track and focus on the issue not some "story".

i guess all the ar forums are the same then...
I came here because the "other " site is a cesspool of brandwhores and nutswingers, and i guess since I don't own the "in" brands or think the same I am a liar. And by extension, my brother as well since he MUST be lying about the ak and his glock. I be sure to let his wife in the Balkands know that she is a felon for what she did thru the mail (does the USPS pick up often in the Balkands?)
    OK
    Sorry I posted anything.

I'm interested; what country do they live in that it is legal to send a glock (Or any firearm for that matter) in the mail to A-stan? I would love to see the literal laws that allow it as well.

The UN is okay with a soldier "losing" a service weapon and just having his wife send a non-issued glock as a replacement? Doesn't sound right.

Soldiers are burying AK's and slinging their M4's, but when the shit hits the fan, they have time to dig up a weapon, de-sand it, get it slung and get into the fight? Starts with a "b", ends with an "ull shit".

    nick,

You could have saved yourself much aggravation by posting the facts in the beginning. Instead when someone who happens to know a little something about what you are talking about challenges your statement you then add to it to such as you have done here.

If you think we are nutswingers and brand whores then simply click on the "close this tab" button and go to ARFCOM or some other place that will placate your sillyness.

I am a brand whore. For the simple fact that in my years of REAL LIFE HANDS ON EXPERIENCE I have found that brands that are around have a proven track record of working.

In the AR world every bumpkin and his brother is building a "combat ready" AR and marketing it as such.

There seems to be a lot of stuff popping up here that belongs on TOS. I don't even know why I read this thread. Kind of a sick fascination I guess.

Anyway, I believe the post about burying AKs was referring to the insurgents' technique of burying them until needed. They wrap them in blankets or fertilizer bags so its not like they're caked in mud.

I've waded through the specs and it seems to come down to the fact that some brands of M4's are of higher quality than some others.

Obviously that makes a significant difference to Military, police and match shooters. But does it make a SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE to civilians that shoot only +/- 500 rounds ayear?

In almost 40 years of shooting AR's (mostly Colts, but also a couple of BM's and one DPMS, none of them M4's) I've had only one malfunction. And that was with a Colt A-1, and it was my fault not the gun's. I let too much carbon build up inside the male/female part of the bolt and had a malfunction in the middle of a match. A quickie shot of Breakfree and I was back in business.

So.....my question is this: in the civilian AR world of +/- 500 rounds a year, how much accuracy/reliability difference is there between the brands?

In other words, it might be enlightening to set the specs aside for the moment and detail the real world differences (if any) between the brands with regard to typical hands-on, low round count civilian shooting activities?
