It is always better to be patient, save your money and buy quality once.

I recall seeing used preban colts ten years ago for nearly twice that amount. A new post ban bushmaster was $1,000 the month the ban expired.

Where was were the new colts selling new for $800 in 2000?

    Pre-ban's always run high (still).

Political ban's and lack of availability is always going to drive prices. That doesn't mean that the guns weren't available for around that price point.

I've heard of it happening several times from second hand parties, including local LEO's. Irag gunz shared a moment in this very thread (OR is it one of the other RRA, BM, OLY threads?) when a rifle malf'd during combat and he had to repair it; the soldier who's rifles failed had to go to his pistol. Ask any serviceman who has seen time in combat and I bet you would hear a counter opinion (With actual merit/reality based facts even) to your claims.

Once is enough for me; especially when you can spend the same amount or just a bit more and lower your percentage chance of malfunctions/stoppages/subsequent death.

You're right even the best gun can fail, but the chance of it happening gets less and less when a manufacturer implements the correct materials, correct building, and correct QC. PERIOD! So why would you buy a gun with a higher percentage chance of malfunctioning/stopping and subsequently/possibly getting you killed? Especially when a better rifle can be had for a comparative price? IT is idiotic plain and simple. It would be like spending $25,000.00 on a car that would get you 50,000 miles, instead of buying a car for $25,500.00 that would get you 200,000 miles, it is dumb.

You decide what your life is worth, mine is worth an effin lot more than trusting a known bottom tier weapon to defend it with.
if you need to put your life on the line with 1 gun, why don't you have an ak47? My brother is in Afghanistan and that is what they use...his issue weapon is an m4. I have to say that I would not place ANY ar15 as my last line of defense...or even 1st line. It would be my Garand. i got my ar to shoot with my wife.

no flames intended with what i said, I have one and there is a reason they are using them and m14's again in Afghanistan. I also have a mak 90. My brother says that they BURY the ak's....then grab them on the run and they shoot . his m4 isn't anywhere as reliable...but then again, he had his wife send him a glock so he could "lose" his beretta.

The debate between such widely disparate weapon systems is valid for varying combat conditions. The best weapon in the mountains and hills of Afghanistan is going to be different than the streets of Minneapolis or your home entryway. As to reliability...AK vs AR is a whole different argument than Colt vs DPMS.

I'm sure it's prudent and legal to send a Glock through the mail to Trashkanistan. If he truly wanted and could carry one he would already have it or have access to it without asking his wife to commit several felonies. The whole reason for some troops carrying some form of .30 caliber weapon has nothing to do with reliability. Thier reasons for carrying them would make the AK series even less desirable than the M-4's. I'm not knocking your brother but lots of trash get said that is sometimes not even close to the truth. I say this as a vetreran of Iraq who has a brother currently in the Army on his 2nd tour of Trashkanistan.

Sure a BCM will cost you more than a BM but for only a little more you can have a better rifle if you are willing to do some work yourself.

I just built this guy and its fully NJ legal:
    *pic*

Notice the NJ inspection sticker for proof Im behind enemy lines with you guys.

Its all good parts... I think. Noveske, BCM, Magpul, LaRue, VLTOR, and Battlecomp.

Having a PWS brake pinned onto a BCM upper only costs $109. Not sure why they are charging $200 for a BC1.5 to be installed. There is no way it costs $20 to perm a PWS but $45 to perm a BC. I pinned by BC and my friend welded it for me for free. So there are other options.

A 14.5 middy with a pinned PWS FSC556, BCG and CH is $629.

If BCM will not ship a lower to NJ [Which I think they will, only Blem lowers are not available in NJ] then Grant should. You can get the lower with Magpul furn. for $411. If you get it with a NJ legal A2 stock its only $360 and you don't have to worry about pinning the stock. Add a $50 rear sight and you are at about $1040- $1100 without shipping and FFL fees. A Colt may be just a tiny bit more. If you get a blem lower, you can save another $90 which chould cover shipping and FFLs. If you get the lower with a collapsable stock, just have them shipped dissasembled. Then just buy some roll pins which are like $4 for 100, and some apoxy. In the comfort of you home find where the most comfortable posision of the stock is, and pin the sucker. I have done it twice, its not hard.

I bought my BM in NJ right after BHO was elected and I got ass raped. Had I known what I was doing or read this site, I would have gotten the BCM.

You have choices, and they are not terribly expencive.

I wish I was able to find any AR15 for $750 in Nov 2008. Maybe then I would not have so much regret about the BM. lol
It's just that with budgetary contraints, I personally am limited. It helps that you know a guy who's good with a welder.

Out of curiosity, how did you pin the ACS? Drill press and then roll pin?

And to the person who mentioned full stock, Ace stock, and the Magpul PRS- Those work fine but I have slightly shorter arms, and i like to be very tucked in, so I need a collapsable stock pinned in place.

Yes it is possible to get a more than decent AR in a ban state, it's just that it's expensive and very time consuming.

    ==================

You deleted the "square brackets" around "Quote" & it looks like the "slash" before it too.

Click on the "Quote" button and look at the syntax before and after what you want quoted.
