No one in Wisconsin or anywhere else is trying to break the union up or prevent any freedom of association or even collectively bargain for compensation. They do however have to obey the law. A budget and public compensation are statutory constraints. Like everyone else they have to make concessions and sacrifices in a bad economy.
They certainly have the right to strike, the state also has the right to fire them for failing to fulfill their duties.
