except better durability reliability and battery life...........

on that note i mount mine center line of the gun on the timer im faster picking it up quicker on the snap i see more around me instead of being in my face at rear of the gun but that is for me your mileage my vary

Durability/reliability might be better - have to sort through a lot of internet lore to ever get any kind of handle on that. So far, my EXPS Eotechs have been as reliable as my Aimpoints, so that's all I know for sure. No question the battery life is better, though. If that mattered to me, I'd reconsider.

"fighting through the optic", that was funny, stupid, and exactly showed the frame of reference of the author. Field of View (FOV) is certainly germane to a discussion about the merits of differing magnified optics, but not a red dot optic.

The further back, closer to your eye, a RDS is, the more the border of the optic will occlude view downrange. Also, ... well hell, it'll be obvious to you when you get there the other advantages.

    All,
Thank you for your replies. I am a new red dot owner (Aimpoint comp M2) and thought a discussion would prove useful. I will try mine out a move the red dot back and forth to "see" what I like.

I've been shooting shooting Aimpoints for many years since 1994-1995 and Aimpoint Micros since they've been available. I mount my 30mm Aimpoints on the front edge of ARs upper receiver. I mount my 28mm Micros about 1/2 back to the BUIS. My LaRue lever is just over the brass deflector. I find that this is the fastest (using a CED timer) for an A zone hit on a IPSC target at 25yds YMMV as my needs are probably different from yours.
