I have been buying some tools for general maintanance but some things like the vice clamp im trying to avoid as they are something I would probably use once maybe twice. When changing a FS will it screw up the barrel to hold the barrel by hand and wrench it off? If so I guess I better buy a vice and the clamp lol. Also is the ejector changing tool needed or can you do it by hand. Since im a dealer its easier and cheaper for me to buy a complete upper than to put one together or I would probaly start building.
    Thanks

Ok it might be easier to say this way for general maintnance like replacing pins, springs, gas tubes etc and not doing any type of build what would you guys recommend.

    I have so far
    DPMS Multi tool
    Roll pin punch set
    Pin punch set
    PMOAKS
    GS screwdrivers
    hammers

Randall I think you have a pic or diagram for everything in existance.

    Left to right:
7/32 hex punch for popping taper pins loose (tip is cupped from daily use)
1/8" drive punch for LMT/Armalite/RRA straight FSB pins
Brownells taper pin punch (very rarely used)
    3/32" drive pin punch
    5/64 roll pin punch
    1/16" roll pin punch
    Adco gas tube pin punch
5/64" deep and shallow roll pin starters (self made for gas tube pins)
0.190" gauge pin for checking alignment of barrel nut to receiver

I have a LOT of others, but these will do most jobs on uppers.

Pipe wrench rarely used but when the bbl nut is damn near welded on, I cut the delta ring, snap ring and weld spring (with a large set of bolt cutters above) and remove and use the pipe wrench to remove the bbl nut (I have about 15 spare bbl nuts)
    I'm dissapointed.
I thought you were above these two techniques.

sorry accidently edited your post instead of quoting it. --gotm4

Sometimes my working on guns is between busy times at the shop, I'm not a full time armorer, I have to help customers too (you know with looking for green infrareds/gats/holsters etc ). Most of the time, time is of the essence, I don't work on guns in my spare time (spare time is for my wife and shooting etc), VA Arms is my only job (and I don't get paid overtime, so after we close I go home just like everyone else). BTW, We're the 3rd busiest shop in VA, and oh and I've snapped up to 4 teeth off of LMT barrel nuts using just the DPMS wrench without a cheater bar............ maybe you need to eat some more venison/beef . Which is why I just cut the delta rings one and use a pipe wrench, it might be primal but it works and it's very quick.

I use the cheater pipe because it's easier, not because I have to.
    I believe it's called a mechanical advantage.
