Building my first from ground up, bolt ?

    Hello All

So I'm building my first ground up AR and have a quick question. Iv decided I'm going to go with a lightweight Barrel with a mid length gas system. When picking a barrel and BCG what do I need to keep in mind in reference to the bolt and barrel. Is there any checks I need to do? Is there anything to watch out for? Iv heard reference to "go or no go" is this something I need to learn about? Any input would be appreciated.

What you are thinkIng of is headspacing. With a quality new barrel and new bolt it shouldn't be an issue but a gunsmith can check it out quickly. Go with a quality BCG like a BCM or DD or similar.

Your exactly right that is what I was thinking about. The barrel Im about 95% sure will be a DD. Im still up in the air about the BCG but BCM and DD are in the mix. Don't want to have to buy a BCG and have to "Upgrade it".

Personally I wouldn't let many "gunsmiths" in the area here work on or touch mine or anyones elses AR's. Far too many of them don't know the system.

If you are getting a quality barrel and BCG then you should be fine. I have a 5.56 FIELD headspace gage that we can check it with, as well as the other gages, firing pin protrusion, etc...

Get rid of the Delton trash and get a good one from GandR, Daniel Defense or LMT.

As for your BCG I would go with BCM or DD. I would also get a BCM Gunfighter charging handle. I don't care for ARMS stuff, but that's me. I woud also consider getting a Battle Comp in lieu of the Vortex.

Not sure why you want or need the Rainier billet upper. I would go with a regular M4 upper from BCM. Since most people cannot shoot to the accuracy potential of their weapons I don't think it's needed.

Honestly the RA billet upper is purely aesthetics. I hate to say it but I like the looks of the billet upper. Thanks for the info on the other items. Honestly need to research the Battle Comp. It doesn't ring a bell for me.
