The original M18 was an M4 barrel cut down to 10.3" and gas port opened up, I've seen the Crane report stating that. I do not know if Colt ever produced factory MK18 barrels for the military.

The M249 uses a special grade CMV and thicker chrome. There is no exaggeration or "hyperbole" involved , that is the spec our CHF barrel is built to.

OK, I'll suspend reasonable suspicion and give you the benefit of doubt. Does the composition of the barrel or the thickness of the chrome extend the life of the barrel by a margin that can be proven empirically or is it simply implied or claimed?

No. It is just the specs of our barrel, you don't have to read any marketing into it.

I understand most people may not "need" more than 4140 barrels. I also understand why 4150/CMV is better than 4140 for hard use, even without shooting 20 of each to destruction. I understand

Do you doubt the M249 uses barrel material that falls outside MIL-B-11595 or that Noveske barrels are made with the same material?

Here is the answer. No. I went back to SAW this evening and I addressed the issue while I was there. There were several Mk18 barrels in the Vidmar and they were from the factory.

That is good news. So in essence, SAW can build you a Colt "factory" MK18 upper.

And they look nice. I checked them out at a recent show, and the work is quite impressive. I think, (no I know) I want one of his uppers. Maybe a 10.3.
