I guess I'm lucky. I beat the crap out of my 512. I really like the way the eotech is set up vs the aimpoints. If mine does fail, I'll be disappointed, but until then it's staying on top.

RDS in any form is less than optimal for a Copper who isn't actually in to mastering his carbine in my opinion. And Eotech is the worst choice.... As it's been said over and over... "if you have to turn your gun ON to fight, you have the wrong gun"

At least the current aimpoint variants can be left on all the time.

Mine may be one of the few exceptions or lucky ones, but my 553 has had no issues in 4 years. Having said that, my collection of RDSs have slowly increased on the Aimpoint side of the house (M4S, H-1, R-1).

You have to load them, and take them off safety. I do think being able to leave the aimpoint on is an advantage, but "wrong gun" I think not.

Most of our officers run dept. issued Colt 6920's, but we have the option of using our own rifles as long as they pass the firearms instructor's criteria.
My recommendation for optics were as follows: Aimpoint ML2, Aimpoint ML3, Aimpoint H-1 w/DD mount. I was able to put together some great quotes from several reputable dealers that I have dealt with before. However, the chief decided that he wanted something just as good, but cheaper, such as..... AN EOTECH. Further arguing, whining, pointing to various articles on Eotech issues, etc. did nothing to change his mind. After voicing my displeasure over the issue, I placed an order for several Eotech 512 models.

Fast forward to today.... All the Eotechs were mounted and taken to the range to zero. No problems until it was the chief's turn. He fired four rounds, three with a dot, and on the fourth round the sight went dead. No matter what he and I tried, the stupid thing wouldn't turn back on. It's currently headed back to Eotech for "warranty repair".

Needless to say, my T-1 is still going strong.... Ironic isn't it?
Nothing produces change like having the bosses gear go TU. Your story is almost exactly how I got the switch from Mini-14s to Colts.

What you don't realize is that the post you responded to was the most diplomatic post I believe markm has ever made regarding red dots.

Had my Eotech almost since they came out...

Other than the battery life, I have no complaints...

I think I actually get a better FOV out of the Eotech...

Not bashing the Aimpoints as I really like them too...

Never had a problem. The XPS is awesome. When mounted far forward it has planty of space. I almost got the 512 Until I seen how long it was, Almost 5 inches!

I'd want to know how the PRO differs in quality and construction from the rest of Aimpoint's lineup such that it allows them to sell it for $200 less than any other RDS in their catalogue.
