    Question Your Beliefs...

Ok, if you are one of those people who is happy and content with your belief system and personal views of the world (and more importantly aren't imposing your beliefs on everyone else or using them as justification to blow shit up) and don't mind if they have little or no supporting evidence you can stop reading now and I wish you a good day and a happy life.

But if you are one of those poor unfortunates who questions things and requires a reason to believe something (such as evidence that suggests it's true) then I have the book for you.

    http://www.amazon.com/Demon-Haunted-...8589311&sr=8-1

The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark by Carl Sagan

It is a wonderful book that helps you determine the validity of any belief system, idea or concept. Now I don't draw a belief system from this book and it isn't offering one. It is nothing more than a critical evaluation of many popular ideas such as UFOs, religious beliefs, certain forms of therapy and analysis and various new age concepts.

And more importantly, it is a method of evaluating virtually any idea or concept for validity. I was even forced to reconsider a few of my own "be neat if it were true" beliefs. I really didn't draw a new belief system from this book, it is more of a direction sign on a road I was already traveling that has made my journey more efficient.

So if you are a skeptic, a seeker of the truth regardless of what it may actually be or just wish to be a more critical thinker, then you would probably love this one.

And if not, please continue on your way and Buddha bless you.

I've always liked his books. Hope there is a Kindle version.

The preponderance of evidence suggests that the theory of purchasable Sagan books is correct.

... or you could "teach the controversy" that Carl Sagan's books are not actually available for purchase any more.

Yes. I base this on the evidence that I recently purchased one.

In the same vein, but a critique of the "science as god" belief system developed by Sagan is The Devil's Delusion: Atheism and Its Scientific Pretensions by David Berlinsky. Berlinsky actually addresses Sagan and some of his statements quite a few times.

Yup, Dawkins and Sagan are just perpetuating a different religion, right?

    Sigh.....
