I try to read books from both ends of issues. Usually it reinforces my own beliefs and arguments, but sometimes I am swayed. I am an atheist in that if I ever see God, I hope to hell I have my shit together enough to check myself into a psychiatric ward.

There's a reason Evolution is called a "theory."

When I hear this, I have pinpointed someone who didn't pay attention in 8th grade science class. The statement is true, but the implication that the person who said it is obviously trying to make shows a complete ignorance of the scientific method and theory. I really don't mean to single you out Skyyr, it's just a pet peeve of mine, along the lines of people arguing against the evolution of eyes--all that needs to be done is to read up on the subject.

Not only is evolution the best explanation for how life is the way it is on our little blue ball, it's the only scientific explanation we have. A grand wizard willing the universe into existence is not supported by anything but collection plates.

Yes, the statement is true. And saying it shows a complete ignorance of the scientific method and theory is not. I guess my B.S. in Biology and M.S. in Microbiology didn't teach me anything. What the statement "Evolution is a Theory" means is exactly that. Which demonstrates a command(at least for me) of how the Scientific Method works. You said it yourself, the statement is true. If you know what this means, then you know Evolution has not been proven to the standards that would permit it to become a Law. I am not necessarily saying the Theory of Evolution is wrong. I am simply saying that according to the standards of the Scientific Method, it has not been conclusively proven.

As far as it being the only explanation, ah, no. Punctuated Equilibrium. By leaving this out, I do not believe you grasp the fundamentals of the Scientific Method. If you had a firm grasp, this would have entailed advanced studies that would have taught you about PE.
