I know it might be a little early to claim a victory, but I think the SWFA Super Sniper 1-4x24mm is the current best in show.

What are your needs/concerns? battery life? reticle with holdover? weight? length?

it's a competitive market, and different needs will drive different competitors to the top of the list.

Not so sure about that. Customers are already reporting issues with the battery tension spring not maintaining pressure and allowing the illumination to go on and off under recoil. With the zoom ring geometry, it is also going to be difficult to find a zoom lever to fit.

My vote is for the Trijicon TR24. I'd rather see a different reticule offering but for the less than $1k class, it's hard to beat.

I have one Horus vision scope I use on one of my hunting rifle now and I'm very happy with. The scope was made by HAKO of Japan and is great quailty. They have a scope called a talon for 650& and a newer model for 950$ both come with software and pre prepared drops for some of the more popular factory rounds.

I am torn between this and spending twice that much on the NSX their not realy in the same class but for the price its hard to say no for me with as happy as I am with my HAWK scope.

My confidence in the TR24 has been shaken. I had a class a few weeks ago where both myself and another guy were running TR24s. It was raining lightly all day. By the end of the day BOTH of our TR24s were wet inside. Trijicon has had my TR24 in their hands for almost 3 weeks now and I haven't heard back from them yet.

I picked up a NXS 1-4 (which is a bit more than the budget stated) and I'm thrilled with it so far over the TR24 (and not just because the NXS isn't full of water.)

For what its worth I just switched to this style optic and I like it it alot. I don't know what you are looking for in a scope, reticle illumination, sttle, ect? But of you looking for something basic w/o illuminated reticle try the leupold vx1 shotgun/muzzleloader,this thing is working great on my ar. I got mine in a larue spr mount and I love this thing, it has a nice heavy duplex so otherbtime great for cqb situations and the reticle ostensibly great in low light conditions as well. It works great out to 200 yards as well holding about 11/2 - 2 MOA. Thaa as far as I have shot it because that's the longest the range is near me. You could do the larue mount and scope for around $400 shipped and its got a lifetime warranty from leupold. Work great for me and its way under 1k, just some food for thought

Gee that realy suprises me alot. I have had nothing but great luck with their products tough as nails. Sorry you had a run of bad luck. I have seen their sights droped a pretty good ways and they have not lost their zero to the point you could barly see through the glass it was so cracked and the sight still worked.

I have similarly heard many good things about them. I'd have no trouble accepting that mine was just a fluke but the fact that both TR24s in the class failed is what shook me.

Thats a shame..I was actually looking at that scope. But if it is just the tension spring..it shouldnt be that hard to fix...The zoom lever is def an issue..
