For $1000 I'd have to go with the Nightforce 1-4X24 NXS

Vortex PST 1-4 and will cost you $499 and available in Mil or MOA reticle. Daytime bright and locking adjustable zero stop turrets. what is not to like!

Just with few more bills, Nightforce will serve you very well.

Also look SWFA SS 1x4 that they just released. quite impressive.

If I were anywhere close budget wise to the baby NXS.....I would save a slight bit more or whatever and pick one up.

It's just a damn winner, and it's perfectly balanced with truly exceptional glass and clarity for it's size. I intend to pick one up soon hopefully but I just hunt for several weeks and 9/10 times I find a NIB or flawless used optic that I want at least a cpl. hundred bucks cheaper. I know for sure if I wait a few weeks and watch numerous places like a hawk a baby NXS can be had NIB from a non dealer at or less than 1k.

My vote is for the Trijicon TR24. I'd rather see a different reticule offering but for the less than $1k class, it's hard to beat.
I'm not worried. SWFA is already addressing the issue with a complete battery compartment redesign including a free upgrade to all current owners.

SWFA will also be releasing a zoom lever (cat tail) for this scope in a month or so.

I like the Trijicon too, but what pisses me off is the reticle, and the fact that they jacked the prices for 2011.

I owned and recently sold a Nightforce. It's a great scope, but expensive, and offers only less flexible reticle options when compared to the Super Sniper.

It is too new to be proven, but for $499 I'd have to give the Vortex Viper PST 1x4 a try, and most likely will.

Well I was going to suggest the TR24, I have one on my MWS and love it. But it hasn't been out in the rain, so maybe it isn't the best recommendation.

I am interested in what Trijicon has to say about the issue.

I picked up a NXS 1-4 (which is a bit more than the budget stated) and I'm thrilled with it so far over the TR24 (and not just because the NXS isn't full of water.)
Interesting to read your situation, as something went south on my TR24 recently.......when switching between 1X and 4X, the zero is not close at all. 13" right, 5" high version of not close.

Prior to that, I've been fairly happy with it, but admittedly haven't had the funds or time to try other options.

    Just sent mine in yesterday.

I second this. The NF glass is tremendous, and has great light transmission for the size. I have both the 1-4 and the 2.5-10x24 and have been 100 percent satisfied with the performance of both.

I was able to pick my 1-4 up for well under your price limit by watching the EE boards for a good used model. The one I picked up was as NIB as far as I can tell. I have had no problems with it at all, and if I do, NFs CS is top notch.

    Good luck!

I'm putting my vote in for the SWFA SS 1-4x. I'm purchasing one in a week or 2 tops for my ar. I have confidence in this company. They have a lifetime warranty through bushnell, even if you buy the scope second hand. It looks to be the best offering on the market.

As mentioned previously they WILL take care of there customers, & the battery compartment issue is being addressed. I can't wait to have one in my hands.
