The past couple of years I have tried Aimpoints, and settled on the Eotech, because of the trouble I have with seeing red dots nice and round. I always saw a dash or slant. At 45 my eyes are getting old, and I have to wear glasses now. The glasses helped me see a nice round red dot again, but I eventually wanted some magnification.
I tried a 3x mag for a while, and didn't like that either. I sold off all my Eotech's, and just bought the Vortex PST 1-4x, and fell right in love with the thing. My first thought was, that I only wish I had switched to one of these sooner.
IMHO is has the best of both worlds for me. Set to 1x, I am just as quick as I was with the Eotech. The extra magnification is great for testing out hand loads too. I put it in a Bobro extended mount, and it returns right to zero with no re-adjustments to be made.
You just can't beat it for the price. Time will tell how well it holds up to abuse, but I don't plan on getting too carried away. I'm hoping one day someone will post something about how it held up to some abuse in a class or something.
I love this freaking thing!!
