Thread: Vltor A5 not working in my M16.

You may need to better define your "really bad bolt bounce and disengaging the auto sear"

What, exactly, is happening. Bolt bounce has nothing to do with the auto sear. And the function of the trigger group, including auto sear, works within a very wide range of reciprocating, BCG, speed.

What type of lower/parts/bcg do you have? Factory assembled or?

    Edited-wrong stuff.-

The BCG and parts are fine as it worked perfect with H3 buffer or rifle buffer. Its a colt. Its all colt parts except Gisselle trigger group.

There appears to be a spring inside the A5 buffer that holds the weights forward.

What is the purpose of this ?

I know the problem is caused by timing because the round is loaded and ready to go but the sear isnt tripped.

If it wasnt loaded it would be one thing, but loaded and no full auto means the timing is off.

Your statements defy logic. Shinning off a couple of SME's.... well, it sounds like you don't need any help.

Danno is right. I hate to say this, but you are wrong.

Proabally to increase the moment of inertia by keeping the weight against the base of the bolt carrier.
My brother saw Deliverance and bought a Bow. I saw Deliverance and bought an AR-15.

The sear does engage in bolt bounce, it is just as the hammer is released, the bolt carrier is bouncing to the rear off of the face of the barrel extension and the bolt is unlocked enough and the firing pin retracted enough to create a condition similar to hammer follow. The firing pin is retracted and the hammer expends the majority of its blow when the firing pin cannot reach the primer.

The hammer then follows the bolt to a position of rest as the bolt re-locks as it is cammed by the carrier moving forward.

Well apologies to Dano then, it was explained to me the other way, but that makes more sense. USMC armorer incorrectness strikes again.

I am still positive the problem is some component of the A5, spring or weight or whatever, as it worked perfectly before adding the A5.

Trying new spring in a bit. Thanks guys.

    No joy.

Took it to the range again.

Tried a colt spring, the vltor spring, and an MGI spring.

The MGI spring worked with the 11.5 only suppressed and even then it was a super high ROF and was not picking up rounds occasionally.

None of the other ones functioned at all, maybe 1-3 rounds before I had to reset trigger

I then switched it back to my regular collapsible tube, and H3 buffer. It worked perfect with 14.5 carbine, 11.5 EXT and 11.5 suppressed. I even got it to run wolf by switching to a different spring.

I then switched to my rifle buffer and tube and again it worked with everything.

So I guess I am just going to go with, if it aint broke dont fix it, and sell off the A5.

I am still unsure of what the malfunction is. You have stated "same as Heavy Metal described" as he describes bolt bounce. But then you say you reset the trigger.

You literally reset the trigger? You push it forward and then you can pull it again successfully? Or you cycle the action, cocking the hammer and start the cycle of operations again?

On auto, most likely reason (if the weapon has NO issues in semi) if your hammer is forward on a live rd = bolt bounce
Bolt bounce usually remedied by upping buffer weight.

What do you want to sell the A5 buffer/tube/spring for, and which buffer weight do you have?
