If I could start over I would get a SA M1A and never look back.

I sold my unreliable AR with 5 first generation PMAGs and a Pelican case. Used the money on these

    Mossberg 930 SPX
    Gear Sector Sling

    BCM 16 in Upper
    BCM BCG
    BCM Blemished Lower
    VTAC Extreme 13

I had the red dot and front site from before, but everything else I got using the money from my old AR, case and some old mags.

I'm really happy so far. The rest of the stuff I want is on its way.

first getting into the ar platform, i kinda went big. i ended up getting a lmt mrp piston upper. i know its a bit pricey but after hearing a lot of good things about them and the benefits of the piston v. DI, i decided it was the best buy. and now i actually own two. i might end up selling one, but just because i have two and i can face selling one to fund another project. but i dont think i could sell both just because i love the thing so much

I completely agree with this. I would get a good AR first and then if u want a Scar get the 17. I personally would never buy the 16 because for my use my AR's are more than good to go. It's your dough, only u can decide what u want. I kno I'm eventually getting the 17.

I believe the SCAR would serve your needs.

With that said. If I had to choose one carbine beteen my favorite AR or the SCAR I would still take the AR. The AR is just so easy to get parts for and those parts cost so much less. As an example I still can't buy an extra bolt for my SCAR and there are plenty of other good examples.

I'm not attempting to beat up the SCAR, I really do like mine. There are still some things I can't buy for it that I can for my ARs and the things I can buy for the SCAR are, on average, expensive compared to the AR.

I'd have a SCAR, I'd just have a good AR first.

Now in 308 I believe it is much easier to justify the SCAR over the AR platform (just my opinion).
