Sighting in rifle... did I do it right?

I have sighted in several rifles before by mere trial and error: shooting a group, adjusting sights, shooting again, adjusting again, etc., with no real thought as to the math involved. (Still have no thought... anyway.)

I was sighting in a .22 mag. semi for crow/varmint hunting and noticed that the little turrets on the scope said "1 click= 1/4" @ 100 yds."

Is that what's commonly known as 1 MOA?

Anyway, I started out at 25 yards, fired 5 rounds, measured the distance of each shot to my point of aim (the bullseye), averaged the distances, then adjusted the point of impact.

Then I moved out to 50 yards and repeated the process.
The rifle turned out to be more accurate than I am, but is that the correct way?
I assume, since it worked, that is a correct method, but I wanted to see what you guys thought.

No. That would be 1/4 MOA. 1 MOA is 1" at 100 yards. 4 clicks on that turret would be 1 MOA.
