"The Chart" is full of cold hard facts. Do what you want with the information. Rob spent a great deal of time and effort putting the information in a place and format that is easy for people to access. My pride took a little hit when I found out all the flaws my BM had. I took a hard look at the info the chart provided and fixed a few issues. I saved some money and made my next purchases with my eyes wide opened.

    Thanks Rob.

WOW If someone needs to validate their purchase with a comparison chart of mil-spec features, then they are obviously not feeling good about their weapon in the first place. Several members on this site go above and beyond to help educate others about the platform. I am thankfull for the straight shooting members who give their honest, informed, experienced opinions. I love all the information available here, and constantly read through the stickies. This new knowledge is what makes me want more from my rifle. Do I feel bad for having a Smith & Wesson and a Double Star in the gun safe? Not at all. They serve their purpose...as will the BCM middy when I get around to ordering it

Yep. That's what I see it as useful for. But, dang, if you use it for that then the OP say's your lazy, etc..etc..So, maybe you and I are just too damn sorry to do our own research.

How much actual shooting do they do? Is it the kind of shooting that you do?

If nothing else I think I am going to have to re-publish the Chart when it's done simply as an acknowledgment that people are lazy at worst, ignorant at best, just to counter-act the gunshop salesman dis-information express.
Agreed, wholeheartedly. Most are gun shop workers are good folks, but they know little to nothing as to what they are selling or pitching. It is often regurgitated BS, passed from one employee to another. Which is repeated baseless opinion.

Yep, by that logic, folks that look up sine/cosine/tangent tables while doing trigonometry should be tagged as lazy for no greater sin than lacking a "Rain Man Mode" switch readily accessible on the outside of their dome.

Even having those tables spoon-fed to you can still lead to some pretty spectacular trig mistakes, as my college transcripts would indicate.....

First time I did any serious research into ARs was back in the 90s when the mantra was ABC- Armalite, Bushmaster, Colt. Those were the top choices. I bought a Colt 20 A2 HBar and it was a great rifle.

Recently, I decided to assemble a more optic friendly AR rather than modify my HBar. Fortunately I found The Chart which helped me understand what to look for in an AR. The explanations were particularly useful. The Chart also led me to this site where I discovered how much I still had to learn.

That Chart was a great place to start my own researches from. Rob, if it had not been for the compilation of information you put together, I'd still be stumbling around in the dark trying to figure it all out. It's led me to research barrel alloys, manufacturing methods, various coatings and gain a greater depth of knowledge about firearms in general. For myself, The Chart wasn't a fish. It was a landmark, a navigational aid. For that, I'm grateful. Thanks

It continually amazes me that a simple, factual comparison chart stirs this level of emotion among both sides.

It's a useful tool for both purchasing and education.

Rob put effort into creating it and did the best he could.

    It is unbiased.

    It has it's limitations.

It has caused more sandy va***as than a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition.

...of course, I'm a Colt guy and they're always at the far left side of the chart!

And, as I and others have been saying in this thread and in the past, all the emotion should be ignored. At the end of the day, if the goal is to educate and disseminate factual information, I'm simply not seeing where the problem resides. There simply NO reason to let the lowest common denominator be any kind of driving force in the publication of factual data. I'm simply not seeing it. One cannot get too bent out of shape because people refuse to behave. This is something all of us cynics have to come to terms with.

There's nothing inherently wrong with being ignorant. Ignorance is simply lacking in knowledge about something. The chart and explanations of features exist to help the ignorant, as does any other form of education.
