The case came with the field pak (no foam).

The field pak fits snug and actually I had to position my rifles just right in the field pak so that it wouldn't be too bulky and interfere with closing the hard case.

My personal opinion is that this case is one of the best out there right now. It cost a lot, but I think it was a good investment.

Storm cases have much better latches and are built a bit tougher. When spending my own money, I have yet to pick a Pelican over a Hardigg/Storm case. Wouldn't turn down a good deal on a Pelican, though. Pelican's probably good enough for most uses. Just my $0.02.

I've used Starlight, Pelican and Storm. I'll take Storm every time. Better latches (absolutely hate Starlight latches), better handles and won't be any less tough the the other two. No brainer.

I have one that's a 50" for sporting guns, and another that I believe is the 42" for my AK (and sometimes my AR). I've found that I can fit two guns even in the models that aren't designated "double rifle" - the regular ones don't have that divider, but they do have velcro straps to hold the guns in place. I can easily fit two shotguns in the longer case, but two AK/AR type long guns are much more difficult to fit w/o the "double rifle" option because of pistol grips, optics etc.

If you're not in a rush, keep an eye out they go on closeout fairly often. I didn't pay more than $50 or $60 for either of mine.

I second the 5.11 cases from LAPolice Gear. I have the 42" double model. It fits 2 ARs, one with an 18" barrel and hunting scope, and has room in the external pockets for lots of other stuff as well as molle for adding on. Also has removable backpack-style straps. Highly recommended. I got mine for $69 on sle.

I'm not even sure why Pelican continues to make their branded case, since they own Hardigg/Storm now. Just make the superior case (H/S) and put the Pelican name on it.

+1 on Starlight cases having AWFUL latches. I'm sure they are hella strong, but I shouldn't need a pry bar and a mallet to latch and unlatch a gun case.

Has anyone tried the Boyt hard cases? I recently spotted them during a visit to my favorite hunting dream store..Cabelas. The ones I looked at seemed to be decently constructed and I really liked the way the latches operated. They are metal and had a caming action that appeared to be better constructed than the typical plastic type.
    Any comments on this case???

A friend of mine works at a local gun store that carries them, he says they're good (but he also sells them). I looked at them, and they appeared to be of high quality with good quality latches. They have foam or an optional interior soft case similar to storm's field pak. I wanted a 50" version, and they didn't have them in stock, so that plus the fact that I haven't been able to find many reviews on them here and on other factors made me choose something else (pelican storm).

I think it's probably a good product, but I didn't see any reason to get one over the storm 3300.

I keep my cameras, lenses, and lighting equipment in two Storm cases. I tried Pelican, but wasn't terribly impressed.
    Same here.

My expensive camera gear only rides in Storm cases.

My understanding is the IMxxxx series is the old Hardigg Storm which was acquired by Pelican.

The 1700, 1720, 1750 etc. series is the original Pelican.
