    LMT Carbine or Sabre Middy?

    Hey everyone,

I am looking to purchase an AR15 as my patrol rifle and out of the authorized brands these two seem to be top notch and in my budget.

I am considering purchasing the LMT 14.5 upper from Botach ($499) and a lower from Rainier and then adding a bunch of goodies to it

    OR

I was considering a midlength (for all the added pros of the midlength system) and Sabre is the best choice on my list. I know they have shut down shop but I figure I can still get one online somewhere.

So I guess my question is, with all the pro's I hear about with a midlength gas system should I choose the Sabre over an LMT carbine to take to work every day?

    Thanks for any advise

P.S. - I know someone will throw out the recommendation of BCM/DD/Noveske for good middys but my Dept does not allow them and my only other choices for a middy are RRA/DSArms/Armalite

I've got a LMT 14.5" carbine and it is GTG. I put on a Vortex flash suppressor and a LaRue rail.

If it wasn't pinned and welded I think the Battle Comp would be a great addition.

even LMT has dropped off. BCM and colt are, at this point, the only complete guns i would consider right now. and i only include colt out of consideration for their LE model standards- a BCM can be had for several hundred less, and in more ready configurations.

LMT uppers, minus BCG are good to go. LMT lowers are good, except that they come standard with carbine buffers.. so even that needs to be replaced, most times. LMT standard BCGs are good to go, but their complete guns come with modified carriers.. so screw that.

any reason specifically BCM isn't on your list?

Sounds like BCM isn't authorized by his department...

For a duty carbine, I would go with the LMT based upon the choices that you listed. Surprised that Colt isn't on the list but...

I would NOT buy the LMT upper from Botach. Period.

There are some buyers questioning the barrels on the uppers that Botach is selling. I haven't seen an upper that was purchased from them, but based on the history of the company, I would stay away and just buy one from Grant (G&R Tactical) or another site sponsor.

Why not buy a BCM middy upper, and put it on a approved lower? I dont know just a thought, and will Sabre be around if you have issues and need warrenty work?

So if BCM/DD/Noveske is out of the option because your dept. does not authorize them, then I would go with the LMT Carbine, put a Battle Comp brake on it, and then add the VLTOR A5 recoil system. Between the battle comp and the A5 recoil system, your carbine will recoil almost as soft as a middy, but you get the benefit of a high quality rifle. There is a very good reason Sabre is out of business.

If you go the LMT route, buy a Battle Comp and the A5 still for less than the default Sabre.

LMT Defender 16" Carbine: $1,485.00 (before LE/mil discount)
    Battle Comp 2.0 Brake: $165.00
    VLTOR A5 system: $100.00
    ------------------------------------------------
    Total $1,750.00

    Sabre M5 Tactical: $1,970.00

LMT MRP Middy upper on an LMT lower, which I have, OR BCM Middy railed upper on an LMT lower, blacken the BCM logo with a permanent black marker, add a BCM BCG, mod 4 charging handle, and call it a day.
