    This LMT upper? http://www.botachtactical.com/lmtco14uprea.html

Most LMT uppers with BCGs are in the $600 range, seems too good to be true.

Thanks for all of the replies everyone

With regards to the upper at Botach, yes people were originally second guessing if the barrel was LMT due to Botach stating it was a CHF barrel, which they posted in error and have since removed from the description. The markings on the barrel were compared to ones purchased from BCM's site by someone who owned both and they were identical.

Colt is on the approved list but the price point is too high for me, the Sabre Middy at ~$1100 was about my max limit and I have not seen many colts below that price point.

As much as I would love to just slap a BCM upper on an approved lower My Dept G.O.'s state I can only deploy complete rifles from approved manufacturers so mix matching isn't allowed. Yes I could just color over the markings but when I end up using this thing at work and it gets taken by Crime Lab they will figure it out and its my ass.

As for a full list of authorized brands:

    Colt
    Larue
    LMT
    DSArms
    Barrett
    Sabre Defence
    DPMS
    Rock River
    Stag Arms
    Ruger
    S&W
    Armalite
    Bushmaster
    LWRC

I was also considering S&W's but I figured if I could get an LMT for the same price, why consider it...

Any other thoughts? Thanks again for the help

Oh man, that list! It's killing you... as far as getting a good midlength. I can see why you went to Sabre Defence.

LMT uppers, minus BCG are good to go. LMT lowers are good, except that they come standard with carbine buffers.. so even that needs to be replaced, most times. LMT standard BCGs are good to go, but their complete guns come with modified carriers.. so screw that.

any reason specifically BCM isn't on your list?
Im curious as to whether your claims of LMT's decline have any merit. Im not calling you out, but Im about to buy LMT and if you have some hard evidence then I'll go back to BCM.

i was probably too harsh with my words- i'm still a fan of LMT parts, but when they started putting modified carriers in their guns, i pretty much wrote 'em off. modified carriers, C buffers, ergo grips, straight pins... its a lot of shit you have to spend time and money on to correct, for a gun as highly regarded as they've always been.

I have a buddy that got one of the Botach LMT uppers. The markings on the upper were identical to every LMT upper I've seen. The upper came with an M16 BCG, tactical charging handle, and buis. All parts were LMT and had the correct markings.

The only "issue" was that the upper had a neutered FSB (sling swivel and bayonet lug removed). If I had to wager, the uppers are some sort of contract overrun. So long as you're not planning on running a bayonet, I think it is one of the best upper deals going.

Even with a conservative estimate of what the parts are worth (equipment exchange prices), you are paying about $250 for the LMT Upper. That's hard to beat.

    BCG - $110
    BUIS - $75
    CH - $35
    Crap Rail - $30
    Upper - $250 left over

While shopping for my AR I had a chance to handle a nice LMT Ar and the fit and finish IMO was much better then the others in the shop. Everything seemed tighter and more solid.

The others in the shop were Bushy's, S&W's, Colts, Rock River, Armalight, Wilson Combat (Another that felt better made) and DPMS.

I am not saying that LMT is better just by looking at one but, it sure did feel that is was!

From that list, a Colt 6920 (LE price should be at/under $1100) or the LMT. For extra $, an LMT MRP defender 16 would be a sweet midlength.
