Hold on a second - you wanted specifics.

The brands I mention above as good to go use proper barrel steel (or better in the case of Noveske and Centurion), they use a proper milspec 5.56 NATO chamber, not some other funky chamber which cases stuck cases (such as Shrubmaster, who always seems to have crabs), they use a proper milspec hard chrome lining in the barrel and chamber (except Centurion and Noveske who exceed that), they use proper steel for the bolt, they HP and MPI test the bolt for flaws (it sucks to have lugs shear off a bolt...), they use an H2 buffer rather than an el cheapo buffer in order to ensure proper function and to keep the rifle from battering itself apart.

More knowledgeable folks here can get into even greater specifics about this.

Thanks guys. The "use" of the rifle makes alot of sense.I'm definately not looking to build a sniper rifle. I want something simple small and fast, maybe suppressed for indoor home defense.

This is by no means a knock on Colt.

Colt has IMHO in recent years worked its way to the bottom of the heap of the high quality manufacturers. I say this mostly because their features and options are somewhat dated. Colt builds an extremely solid gun, however, both DD and BCM build guns that exceed the milspec and have more desirable features than Colt for the same money. Colt does not build a midlength nor hammer forge their barrels. Are these things a must have? Definately not but they are better/more desirable in some regards.

I chose BCM based on known reliability and price. For the money I'd spend on an SR-15 I could deck out a BCM midlength (rail, optic, light etc..) and then still have money for about 10 mags and 2k rounds of ammo.

Yeah but there are other things with the SR-15 on there that are not standard on the BCM. Do not get me wrong I have owned 3 BCMs now own just one but if I had the cash I would have bought a SR15.

The reason why I bought a LWRC is because I was given a dam good deal on the basic model brand new for $100 less than a Colt in Feb 2010. I got one of the first 5 DD Omega's for the LWRC piston for that extra $100. Lets just say the Omegas are the way to go for a LWRC because it gets it to less than the weight of my M4 with KAC rails.

My only problem with BCM has been the terminal lack of stock as of late.

Yea whats up with that? They used to have all kinds of things in stock and now the website is like a ghost town. They have hardly any barrels in stock and a lot fewer complete uppers than they used to. I hope the company is doing OK.

Going by price versus quality versus value, nothing can beat that, except maybe a good Daniel Defense package.

And in terms of parts and uppers, their diverse product line and prices on them is amazing. A complete BCM upper runs less than what most tier 2 and lower uppers go for, and have double the quality.

That is why they are so popular. Also, I speak from experience that their customer service is quick and professional.
Actually Spikes beats it. Their milspec standards and processes are well documented and the M-4 or Mid length carbines can be had for about $800.

Bullshit, risk bad CS or a poorly designed and unproven platform for duty/hard use.
