I'm writing an article on this, in detail, but basically it's too limiting. The permanently attached muzzle device impacts the ease with which you can change out parts, which I think is a bad idea on a first or only gun. As one of a stable? Maybe it makes sense.

    That makes sense, thanks.

Most people are never going to change their muzzle device, and are never going to change their rail system. With that in mind, there is no down side.

If you are one of the people who needs to swap things around on a regular basis, its probably not going to be the best of choices, but for the vast majority of shooters its a non-event. Guys who are swapping things around all the time typically have multiple uppers and weapons anyway.

    Good post, thank you.

So I've got a LMT 10.5" with a FSP and I wanted to put on a LPGB and rail eventually; Can I do that being that the flash hider is likely permanently attached? Sorry to threadjack...

I agree, many people don't change anything. But, as a new shooter, there really isn't any way to tell what's going to work for you, and the chances of changing something are much higher (or should be, anyway).

I'm confused. On a 10.5" gun, unless its some weird 5.5" flash hider then its probably not pinned and it sounds like an nfa weapon.

Yes though, if it was pinned you are not going to be able to remove the FSP without having the flash hider unpinned so you can remove it.

It is a nfa rifle- wasn't sure if the FH was permanent or not. Sounds like it probably isn't, thanks. I'll get it out of the safe soon and double check.

Its not tacked on if its a NFA upper. However, lets say you wanted to take a 14.5" midlength with fixed FSB and tacked on muzzle device. You could still chop the FSB down and it with a long rail over the top.

Cool, thanks. As a matter of fact, I was just watching a how-to vid on that last night in case mine wouldn't come off.
