How does this Crush Washer work?

Newbie Question: I ordered some crush washers and I got these in the mail. I know how the military silver aluminum crush washer works because the thin aluminum rings literally get "crushed" when you tighten the flash hider down, but these washers don't seem to get crushed when I tighten them down. I've even added a pipe to tighten down my OPS Inc Muzzle break to get it to time correctly, but I feel if I turn it anymore, the threaded part of my barrel will snap off. Oh and by the way, I've only turn the muzzle brake 90 degrees and still have another 90 to go.

Some crush washers are harder than others.
If it's not crushing, try one from a different supplier...

The "military silver aluminum crush washer" is NOT a crush washer.
    It's a peel washer.
You heat it up with a lighter and it delaminates into MANY layers.
Then you "peel" away as many shims as you need to so that the muzzle device torques into proper alignment.

    Try this before buying more............
Take a heavy hammer and put the crush washer on the floor (preferably concrete slab) give it a couple of good square smacks......it shoud help to get you more crush and closer to where you need to be

    sorry it's not worded better

I would suggest putting it in the vice as opposed to beating it with a hammer.

The good news is you bought several, right?

I switched to a Vortex to avoid all this trouble. No washers, no clocking. Screw it on hand tight and it self-torques as you shoot. Works for me.

Yeah but then if you are as anal as me you'll end up not liking where the flats are and will want to throw a peel washer on.

peel washers are nice and look good imho.

I know where you are coming from, Suicidehz. I have had great difficulty resisting adjusting my Vortex to get the flats to line up nicely. I think in the end I will fail miserably.

Am I the only one that indexes their vortex by facing the muzzle?
Y'all know that the vortex is supposed to seat against the muzzle, not the barrel's torque shoulder right?

Actually, Randall, that's how I was going to index it. I had thought of facing the muzzle to index the flats when I installed it but didn't. However every time I look at it, the flats off alignment bugs the crap outta me, I know I'm gonna end up doing it. As you may remember, my barrel is skinny from the FSB to the muzzle, so a crush washer wouldn't look right anyway.
