How did you get into AR shooting/collecting?

I have noticed a lot of posters are current or ex military or police. Just wondering where people "earned their stripes" with this weapon platform or what got them interested. For me it was my time in the military, 2-325 AIR 82nd Airborne Division.

My entry into the military at 17 was the beginning. Although I had fired an AR15A2 HBAR that belonged to a HS friend before I joined.

11yrs old I got my first shooting lesson from a E-6 in a SFG with a Car-15. I was a gun nut every since that day.

Military and 11B as well. I grew up around hunting rifles and shotguns. Never had a thing for them. The M4 on the other hand was love at first shot.

I was tired of toting my Ruger Red Label around the gun shows for sale so I decided to trade it for a Colt A2 upper and cash. Picked up my RRA NM lower and now I'm addicted. I'm trying to get the funds together for a BCM 16" middy build right now.

Hopefully this will put me one step ahead when it comes to Basic and OCS in a few months.

I blame it all on my father. He raised us on firearms and took us out shooting & hunting all the time. As a kid, I was fascinated by the M16 I saw our troops fighting with in Vietnam. That fascination died when I got to shoot the Colt AR-15 A1 type Sporter my father had. I did not like it at all. The Colt A2 type Hbar I picked up back in the mid 90s that sucked me back in. I like the modern ARs even more and being able to assemble a rifle or carbine the way I want just makes it better

My first experience was with my dad's preban CAR-15 with the Colt 3x scope. It wasn't that great of a shooter for some reason and I ended up buying a mini 14.

Fast forward many years and I have recently just gotten back into the platform.
