But did ya bury them in the range or actually hit your target? That's the important question
Anways for me, grew up in a very no outdoors, no hunting, no fishing, no shooting household. Mind you except for the guns my folks werent anit-, it just wasnt their speed.
Went off to Harmony Church when I was 17 and loved shooting. After I got out and went NG I got my first hunting rifle (Ruger M77 in .270) and was immediately frustrated with it. To me it was something pretty to have, not a tool like an M16. Along the way I got married and with the AWB in place I wasn't able to afford much. Fast forward a few years, the AWB sunsets, my economic situation has improved and blam. First one was a 6920. Then a CCD M4LE, then a 6.8 with a Bison barrel. Now I'm working up a list for a BCM Middy.
For me it is the fact that the AR/M16/M4 platform is so versitile, so easy to work on that has hooked me.

In today's world one of the best things you can do for your child; Get them in Scouting, stay with them in the program, and encourage them to stay in.
I had wanted an AR in my early years of firearms interest, however it fell by the way side due to lack of funds. I then went on a sixgun/levergun kick for several years. However, when my daughters were born, I decided it was time to get serious. I put my cowboy guns away and started carrying my 1911 again and then bought an M&P-15. I wish I'd gotten a BCM but the M&P should do me well for now. I'll be retiring my 1911 soon as I just ordered an M&P9 from Grant yesterday.
The AR is like a pickup (I have two); how does one get by without it, being that they do so much?
I wanted to get into guns in general more. I bought an AR and then joined uncle Sams gun club.

I grew up hinting and like most started with a .22 and a 12 guage.
The AR version is kind of funny now that I think back. I wanted to take a training course at BW now USTC and found out they were using Bushy's. I then was at a point I could afford an AR so I bought one then 4 more. That was 6 years ago. Now after alot of shooting, research, and crying twice I have switched to quality AR's. Equally though I've invested in proper training, listening to those who know infinitely more and continue to enjoy my rifles. This site has been invaluable as well as the advice/input from some great instructors.
I still hunt with my single shot .22 though.
I joined the USMC in 1995 at 19 and was issued a M16A2. Prior to that I didn't have any experience with the AR platform, and believed all that crap about the system being unreliable and overpriced. After 5 years in the service, and then getting into law enforcement I've become pretty knowledgeable on the system and have learned to appreciate what it can do.
Bought a new AR to match the AR I was using in ROTC. I was into guns long before that and owned a few.
Never shot a gun until two years ago, parents are very fearful of guns (they think they can just go off for no reason) and never really had a chance until after i moved out. Shot bubba guns a few times and it was OK.
My partner moved in with me in 08 and i realized that it was now my job to protect her. I was ok dying in a break-in before but now that she was living with me it struck me that it was no longer something i could afford to be complicate about. Live in maine while going to school but am technically a nh resident so getting guns was amazingly easy (live free or die). Got an xdm. sold it for an m&p. and then got a BCM AR because all my research showed them to be the ultimate weapon available to me. Much of my time lately has been devoted to shooting or researching to become more effective with it. Classes this summer.
Thats why i got into AR's. I needed the best weapon available to me so i could defend my future wife, myself, and my goofy ass dog. Many knowledgable people told me that weapon was an AR-15 chambered in 5.56.
Grew up in the Western part of Texas. About all there was to do was dragrace cars and shoot guns. Joined the Army in 1970 because I was about to get drafted anyway. Got issued an M-16 and have been hooked ever since.
Not the original texasyid
Hope I don't offend anyone here but here goes.
Seriously, what kind of heterosexual male doesn't like guns? And if you like guns, chances are that you'll get an AR these days since it's the most commonly sold centerfire rifle, and the M4 is the standard issue rifle in the military. Thus, every heterosexual male will probably get a gun or two....probably one being an AR. Then the rest is history for most of us.
