Got my draft notice about 15 minutes after graduating from college in '65; sprung for the USAF hoping to live the good life. After humping around SAC's B-52s in rain, sleet, and snow with M2 carbines everyone volunteered for SEA. We got introduced to the very early ARs--ammo came in unmarked white boxes. Had some 'interesting times'. Spent a subsequent career in LE and was an early adopter of a CAR-15. It was foolishly sold, later replaced and made better with upgrades (no connection with Upgrayyd of "Idiocracy"). Now just a respectable (!) 2A citizen who wouldn't harm a fly.

I grew up in a family that didn't own guns. Dad was an Officer in the Navy when the Tet offensive hit. Mom grew up in VA and her dad and uncle were both in the army in WW II. Either way they didn't think owning guns in the house was prudent living in suburbia nd all, and neither had any strong interest in them though both had shot em at some point in their life.

I had my first opportunity to shoot a gun while at Scout camp one summer, 22 bolt actions, and then got to shoot skeet/clays with a shotgun at Scout camp the next summer. That was the overall extent of physical exposure to firearms. But Scouts did teach me all about the safety rules in regards to them.

Fastforeward 10 years and after starting to pay attention to politics and all I figured it was my god given right, infact duty to exercise my 2nd amendment rights. When I had enough disposable income I went to a LGS and bought a Remington 870 for home defense. I then found out that not many ranges allowed shotguns and the one I had wasn't suitable for shooting clays. So it just sat in a corner for the most part.

Now during all this time I had wanted an AR15 since childhood, seeing them in movies and it being the main rifle of the US military and all, but could never justify the cost. Well 2008 rolls around and the outcome of the election didn't look favorable in regards to being able to own an evil black rifle in the future. So I bought a M&P15, and that is when I caught the disease and it wasn't just isolated to the EBR. I also got my Brother hooked as well

My brother-in-law is a Maricopa County SWAT officer and as soon as I shot his personal AR, I knew I needed my own. That was in 2005 or 6.

I was in the military as an M1 Tanker and we shot the M16 occasionally but never much to be really competent. I was also around the 105mm, M240, M2 50 cal and M1911A1 but they were just tools that we used. I didn't think about it too much being young, dumb and full of cum. As LE I am issued an M4A1 and I am pretty good with it. I was deployed to Katrina and I immediately realized that I needed a AR-15 type rifle for home defense and preparedness.

I was a military brat and was always fascinated with firearms. Fast forward to the future and I resign myself to owning only one pistol b/c my wife didn't want guns in the house.

Then two years ago the tramp leaves me for an ex-boyfriend of hers and in my freedom, I went out and finally bought the BCM Middy I was eyeballing, an M&P9, and a Ruger 10/22 (for my kids). Loser dude can have the tramp because now I have my guns!

I'm currently engaged to a YOUNGER , prettier and nicer gal who encourages my participation in shooting sports. As such, I'm looking at getting a semi-auto shotgun next because I want to try 3gun.

I started shooting at 19, my first guns were a S&W .22 pistol and a Glock. Then one day I saw a ad for a SP1 and went down a picked it up. 22 years later Im still hooked and almost finished building my latest, a LMT M4.

    cool factor turned into practical

I just thought the rifle was cool. Now, I use them for plinking with my son with a 22lr upper, defensive with a .223 and 6.5, brush gun with a .50 Beowolf and I am now moving into 3 gun and precision shooting.

Used to be a very affordable hobby, but politics have driven the price up. Or, should I say, some folks have taken advantage of the political climate.

Nevertheless, once the platform is built, and you see the incredible number of calibers available to you - you (meaning most of us on the forum) never go back.

I have a bunch of rifles, maybe too many for storage that I have, however, each is like a tool in the tool box. You will experience the same if you have not already.

I started shooting shotgun sports (trap and sporting clays) about 4 years ago, and realized I 'needed' a rifle also. Purchased a lower and .22LR upper 2 years ago, and added a BCM 14.5 midlength last year.

I wish there were as many places I could shoot my AR as I could shoot trap/SC, but I make do with what we have.

I served in the British Army; however, was actually issued an M16 when I was serving with a US led multinational unit in Bosnia in '98/99, which was my first real exposure to the platform.

Combination of military orders, luck and circumstance led me to settle in the US on leaving the army in '05. Attracted to the AR platform for general range work and 3 gunning - but also important nowadays, the simplicity of it - I like being able to do all my own assembling and maintenance myself. Fully putting together a nice running rifle from parts is nearly as much fun as shooting it
