    AAC or Surefire

I'm ready to make the purchase on my first suppressor.(556) I can't decide between the m42000 or the surefire. Surefire claims minimal poi shift. I've never heard that the AAC is excessive. Looking for someone with experience from both. The unit will be swapped between a few guns.

After a lot of reading about both options I ended up going the AAC route. Local dealer had one at a very good price and as I understand it the m4-2000 supposedly reads better on a decibel meter than an FA556. I'm not as concerned with POI shift as I plan to zero with the can on and leave it on. Sent my forms in on the 28th of feb so I'm still a ways off from being able to give any helpful opinions, but hopefully I made the right decision.

POI shift is my main concern. AAC seems to average between 0 and 3 minutes of shift. Surefire tends to be less than a minute on the high end.

Do you know if I zero with the AAC can on and leave it on will it be an issue for accuracy or should I be ok?

    It'll be fine.

    OP,

We use FA556's on our M4's and the POI shift is about 1.5" up and .25" right at 100m. My buddy runs an M4-2000 on his personal rifles ranging from 11.5" to 16". The POI shift is dependent on ammo weight, barrel length, and other atmospheric mumbo jumbo. With his 11.5", the shift is minimal and within 2 MOA every time. It varies based on the weight of the ammo which direction it shifts. For instance, with M855 it's always a vertical shift of about 1", however with 75gr TAP it shifts right almost a full inch but no change in elevation. It's more consistent with the 16" and seems to always shift up 1" with no change in windage, regardless of weight of ammo.

Both are great cans. I prefer the AAC Blackout as a stand alone flash hider, so when you choose to run without a can you'll have a great FH.

Surefire make a great product. AAC make a great product. Both perform very similar and you'll be happy with either. Whichever is more realistic to your budget should be the choice.

I would also recommend that you check out the AAC 762SDN-6.
It's a small (size of the M4-2000 + 1" in length, just 2oz heavier) all incolnel (like the M4-2000) uses the same mount as the M4-2000 but it's .30 cal and rated for 5.56 barrels down to something really short like 8" (you'll need to double check that, but it's sub 10").

So, that one QD silencer would cover your 5.56 rifles, .308's, 300 Whisper/BLK, etc. All without giving up much of anything. If I had to do it all over again, that would be the one I'd buy. Plus, it's the same price (MSRP)

Both are good. Even the AAC rep on here will tell you that.
I am currently waiting on my stamp to come back for an AAC M4-1000 and also plan to get a Surefire can very soon.

No issues. If you get AAC use a 51 tooth mount. It's the future and the 18t mounts have issues.

Have you fielded one or be around one?

Reason I ask is that after several weeks of serious deliberation for my first suppressor, and much to my surprise...I have settled upon the 7.62SDN by a very large margin, relatively quickly.

3 key things that convinced me this should be what I pick up in a cpl. weeks:

1.) Running the 7.62SDN in conjunction with a 300AAC 10.5" MRP barrel/chassis. This suppressor appears to be the best one made for 300AAC.

2.) Running it occasionally with my 5.56 Recce and SPR rifles.

3.) Made completely outta Inconel, very important considering I don't plan on buying another non rimfire suppressor for many, many years hopefully.

Trident- I have shot one (well a few actually) quite a bit on different hosts.

You've made a great choice on a versatile can.

    1. the 'N-6 on a 300 BLK gun is just amazing. http://www.aacblog.com/?p=9177

    2. the 'N-6 is within 3-4 dB of a dedicated 5.56 can when used on a 5.56 gun

    3. yes, it will outlast most guns.
