The Nation's Gun Show around here near Dulles is always good for some entertainment.

Occasionally they have some really good deals if you know what to look for... all of my Glocks have come from there, for significantly under what I'd pay at the local shops. Of course, there are always the people selling knockoff optics, cheap nylon vests, and knives that are more flash than function. And don't forget the guys selling what looks to be used armor with signs proclaiming a federal ban is imminent. (Apparently it's been imminent for nigh unto 7 years now).

I did have some fun last time I went by explaining to some youngsters that the AK-47 and SVD are indeed chambered for different rounds.

I have had good luck at the gunshows I go to in Indiana, the indy 1500 gun and knife show. I just bought a new magpul ubr for 225 and a surefire m73 for alittle over a hundred, it was used but in great condition. There is alot of junk but there are some quality stuff too.

Gun shows here in the Camp Lejeune area are sad. Mostly knock off kit that "venders" charge stupid amounts for. Chinese Aimpoint, EoTech, Trijicon clones are common and advertised as able to withstand whatever you may throw at it. Rude people that think they know more about everything than you, who look at you funny when you ask about parts by name. Whats sad is its not going to change, because people keep buying it.

The only show thats worth a damn, thats even close to here is the "Dixie Classic" in Raliegh, but the 2 hour drive, traffic, parking, BS, admission and price of gas, I'd just as soon order online and buy more rounds.

I always get a kick out of the nobama/tea party proud shirts next to the table of chicom optics. I usually go for the misc stuff, there is typically some vendor with a table full of magpul parts, and the wild life is entertaining. I was in search of a QD rail/ sling mount, found a dude with a table of AR parts, including a Daniel Defense rail. I asked if he had the part, he laughed and siad, "those things cost like $100, no one buys them". I meandered to the far end of the convention center and found a guy selling the high speed parts....including my sling mount for $40.

My fave is the NRA old codger, "eff the ACLU, god bless america".

A majority of the shows in PA have quality stuff. I attended one in York, PA before leaving for Michigan for the month (which there was one here this past weekend in Novi).

The dealers in PA seem to have good stuff....I saw LWRC Inc, Daniel Defense, Lewis Machine and Tool to name a few. All of the dealers are friendly for the most part. There is also a dealer there named Precision Firearms that does custom builds for you while you wait and has his own uppers and lowers.

The show here in Michigan this past week was like the OP said. Lots of the standard but I did see a few DD's and 1 R.E.P.R. I was out there with a co-worker who I shoot with and some friends who were new to the AR platform.

Shot at some indoor ranges out here this trip but when the weather gets warmer, we get to have an "Office Space" party which will be a blast.

Anyway...this and other forums are to best way to get educated so when you do go to these shows, you let them know what "YOU" want and not what "THEY" want to sell you.

I'll go if I am in a patient mood and have nothing better to do. I usually end up going more in the winter as a get out of the house measure.

The uninformed consumer factor is huge but does sometimes work in your favor. I watched in utter amazement this winter while people fondled CAA accessories at a table next to the vendor where I was emptying the bin labeled: Magpul PMAGs, New in the Wrapper, $9. It was a husband and wife shop and she commented that she was really surprised that they were not gone since it was such a good deal. I made sure she didn't have to carry any back home with her.

That is the first purchase I have made at a show in a few years but I was glad that I was bored and did not have anything to do that day.

    =====================================

I've got an Uncle that used to be President of the Forks of the Delaware Club. I went to their Allentown shows when I was a kid. the last one I went to was about 10-years ago.
They always seemed to be first class shows. I remember getting (what I thought were ) deals when I was a 15-year old and it was still pretty impressive the last time I went. Even their monthly club-only Sunday morning shows were good.

Most of the shows down here are pretty lame. Guess I got spoiled years ago.

The Houston Gun Shows that were held in the AstroHall were always kickbutt. I've probably got more deals at those Houston Shows than all of the others combined.

    Things are different now....

    But maybe it's just me...

I skipped the last one but I went to the one before that one. I don't ever expect to find any good deals (especially not on a firearm), but I managed to snag some minor things for a decent price. I got my BAD, VTAC light mount, some PMAGS and Magpul vfg pretty cheap. It's more of a "guy's day out", and it's always good for some laughs there. We usually hit up the Hooters afterwards.

Part of the problem is the people who go there and the people who sell. What do Beanie babies, beads and dolls have to do with firearms? Not a damn thing. The shows have allowed them either to generate more income or as some feeble attempt to bring more people into the gun culture.

My guess is that many of those people could care less about guns and just want a venue to sell their wares.

Take a close look at those that are buying firearms and ammo. Many of them are idiots and can't even release the magazine from the weapon. They went on a whim because a friend told them to go there and check out the Uzi's, M16's and AK47's.

Then there are those that go who know exactly what they want, they know their firearms and are looking to get some deals. Unfortunately this group is small and they are outnumbered by the Hi-point commandos and DPMS ninjas who buy garbage and keep the garbage peddlers in business.
