There is one locally this weekend near me. I plan to attend just to see how many GI Janes and Combat Karl's I can find. Me and my LT are going and whoever spots the least buys lunch. But for the most part get to enjoy the typical free comic relief and get away from the wife for a few hours. Plus LE ID gets you in for free.

There is usually one a year that I go to here in town. They usually have a few items that look good. I've seen LWRC, Colt, Knights Armament SR25, Springfield 1911's etc... A few years ago I bought a Rem 700 SPS Tactical for about $50.00 less than I could find it anywhere else. The people there do crack me up though. It truely is reminiscent of the People Of Walmart!

I don't understand why the hell anyone would ever bring their children to these shows? I've seen kids younger than 5 years old and even babies in strollers. The bubba pushing the stroller would often stop it right near something dangerous like a giant table full of knives and Call of Duty Veterans playing with the DPMSs talking about what attachments would get them a better kill to death ratio... Or as they say it KDR.

    ======================================

I took my kids to Gun Shows when they were 6-7.

I didn't want to be the like the kind of parent that never took their kids to a restaurant and when they finally brought them out to eat, the kids act like heathens and then the parents say, "...I just don't know what got into Little Johnny to act like this...!" While everyone's meal is ruined.

Back then, IF I let my kids handle a gun, I MADE them always ask for permission to handle it, TAUGHT them ahead of time how to handle it properly, and MADE them put it back like they found it.
I would usually give them $10 before the show and told them I'd give them another $5 if they still had the $10 after the show. One of the boys would generally get the extra $5 but my other son and my daughter always found something to spend their $10.

I setup every 4-5 years at a gun show to get rid of some junk. Usually, one of my kids (23+ years old) want to go with me and they are always amazed at how parents can stand right there and letting kids pickup guns, finger the trigger, aim at stuff 4' high, etc.
Makes me want to jap-slap the parents.

    But maybe it's just me...

Rude people that think they know more about everything than you, who look at you funny when you ask about parts by name. Whats sad is its not going to change, because people keep buying it.

The only show thats worth a damn, thats even close to here is the "Dixie Classic" in Raliegh, but the 2 hour drive, traffic, parking, BS, admission and price of gas, I'd just as soon order online and buy more rounds.

I completely agree, though I haven't been to the shows actually in J-Ville, I've gone to the one in New Bern, and they're more than likely the same vendors... I don't think I saw one piece of gear that wasn't a knock-off... RRA and DPMS baseline models for 1000+... Very disappointing... Only things I walked out of there with were some ammo, an M&P knife i got for pretty cheap, and a headache.

Oh... I can't forget about the bulk pack .22lr 'bargains', too... 500rnds for 40 bucks is apparently a great deal now... Smh...

I go to kill time, never thinking I'll find a deal. And, yet I am constantly amazed, but never surprised.

Once in a while you find a good to fair deal, or there's that one guy looking to sell something. Like the Colt Trooper MKIII I found.
And, there's usually one or two vendors with decent stuff, I try to buy from, if I actually need anything.

The Shows in Houston were great, Albuquerque and SC, not so great. Guys selling ammo by the box, at outrageous prices, always kill me.

Most of the time, I just buy what i want on the net, and be done with it.

I admit, I bought my hand gun from a gun show. But I went in there as a well informed buyer prior to going there. I knew exactly what I wanted and exactly what the going price was. I paid 50 less than any place else that was local. Which I don't feel bad about because I supported a small guy who was local to me.

But for the most part, the other 99% of the show was full of over priced crap. Stuff that made me think - what are you smokin?

It's really funny you should mention that. At the last show I went to, my buddy and I saw a guy pushing a stroller with 4 or 5 rifles in it. His wife was carrying the kid. My buddy had to take a picture of it...

I don't seem to have a problem selling out at shows here in Michigan. But I can tell you that alot of those dealers wont stock the higher end rifles because they are over priced. Just the truth. I run a DD and a Stag. Have had the Stag for 4 years, and I would not have one problem taking it into combat today.
