So I ordered the wrong barrel....suggestions?

So in my excitement to see what appeared to be the right barrel for my needs in stock at BCM I placed an order before reading the fine print. What's worse is that instead of taking the time to fully inspecting it (I am a med student and short on time, but still I should have taken the ephing time...grrr) I immediately shipped it out to have it cut to 14.7 to suit my needs.

Imagine my surprise during installation when I could not get the holes on my FSB to line up only to find there were no holes for a gas block and that it was dimpled instead! Not only had I ordered the wrong barrel, but I had sent it off to get cut without a proper inspection.

Since returning the barrel is now out of the question I must now come up with a new plan for what was to be a KISS mid length.

I prefer standard hand-guards over rails, and fixed front sight posts over folding, but since I screwed the pooch on this one I am open to suggestions any of you might have to help me salvage this project!

The dimple should be on the bottom. The gas port 180 from that on the top. Do you have a gas port on the top?

You can't just cut FSB holes in the barrel, and expect to put an ole FSB on there. The FSB is placed on, held with a jig, and then its drilled through the FSB and barrel at the same time.

If you want an FSB on there ADCO can install one...or you can sell that one and buy a barrel in the config you want with a FSB already installed.

Yes, there is a gas port on top. There is nothing wrong with the barrel, I just need to come up with an FSB solution that is not pinned.

It's funny because I had never seen a dimpled barrel before and thought to myself "what the eph?" when I saw it. What a bonehead move to order the wrong barrel and cut it down!

If I am reading this correct:

You bought a stripped barrel with the intention of installing a FSB, but the barrel you bought is configured for a lo pro gas block.

I was under the impression that the taper pin holes are drilled in place through the FSB and barrel as an assembly. IF there is enough meat on the barrel in that location (i.e. the dimples wont interfere) I would locate the FSB and drill the holes. I believe you need a special bit to do this (end mill?) so the bit won't walk in the FSB while drilling the harder barrel.

Selling is out of the question...someone would try to bend me over a log. ADCO can install a standard fixed FSB that would be secured without pins?

You didn't order the wrong barrel, you simply misunderstand how these things work. You're not going to find retailers selling barrels pre-drilled for a FSB that isn't already installed. Each FSB and barrel is a unique pair because they are drilled together to accept the pinning.

Anyway, pick out the fixed FSB that you want, and ship them to ADCO to be drilled and pinned.

Your barrel is dimpled for users who want to use a set-screw, low profile gas block.

Well you are not up the creek without a paddle as you think. If you want a pinned front sight post, you need to have someone with the special tools drill it for pins. Or just save yourself the hassle and run a low profile gas block with a sight on the rail. Or use an after market one that clamps. You have options, all is not lost. Also, you can still sell it without taking a huge hit. Maybe someone wants a low profile gas block. That is what I have and prefer.

Well, thank you for salvaging some of my dignity!

I ASSumed barrels came pre drilled. I learn something new each time I eph up.
