    Sons of Guns Ma-duece.

I was watching Sons of Guns build their M-2 tonight and was wondering how they legally made it full auto?

The gun was a kit, even the reciever had to be riveted together and they mentioned something about having to machine a piece off so it could be full auto vs semi auto.

It seems to me they just manufactured a full auto rifle. Why isn't this weapon subject to the Hughes Ammendment of 1986?

I don't watch the show, but if it was Red Jacket, then he's a SOT, and can build as many post May 1986 dealer sample machine guns as he wants.

They are only transferrable to another machine gun dealer or a law enforcement agency.

I love that show, they build some awesome guns.

I can't believe they only paid $6,000 for the Ma Deuce kit.

I want the AK with the integrated suppressor they build.

I recall that episode (what a bunch of fail there was) and if I recall the kit was brought in by a customer. I assume that the customer was also a SOT or the kit was somehow registered back in the day and he never made it operational.

Just a guess since they leave out lots of details. I may be interested in a suppressed AK, but for sure I wouldn't get anything AR related form them.

There is some interesting stuff going on in that show. I know I would not want a camera crew following me around at work. I don't know a lot about the M2 fifty but it looked like a head spacing issue? If it was a semi kit it would have been good to go for any one to own. Right? They are a manufacturer so they are good to go "making" it FA.

I've watched quite a few and had mixed feelings about their work. I will say I was impressed with how they treated the WWII Marine MOH Recipient in the flame thrower show. What a tough old bastard that guy was, putting a seventy pound flame thrower on would be tough for most men and he was almost ninety years old.

I was also impressed with the episode with the Wounded Warrior who the set up with a shotgun on his ATV so he could go boar hunting. That was classy too. No charge for the young Wounded Warrior.

There are several gages required for the M2 at the shop level. Firing pin protrusion, a gage for the firing pin hole, buffer rod gage, breechbore gage and bore erosion and of course the headspace and timing gage.

Headspace and timing is required everytime you remove the barrel. When I was in the USCG I rebuilt 30 M2's and it is a pretty challenging feat.

What they did was even more inclusive and because it was a parts kit they should have been even more careful.

The tools and gages required are pretty expensive and difficult to get.

The gun built was a post sample machine gun. (they are a type 2 SOT payer, aka manufacturer of NFA items). They used one of the commercially available semi right side plates to build the gun. Hence the reason they had to machine off the denial bars on the right side plate. Since the right side plate is the registered component as determined by ATF, the gun was not previously registered as a transferable.

Just curious how you know these facts? I saw the show as well and from what I remembered someone came by with the parts kit.

Did he receive the weapon after SOG worked on it? If so, how was that legal? I am just curious.

I remember them say it was a Virgin Kit and some Parts where still in the Boxes from the factory .I have never seen a M2 Kit before .so if it was never assembled would that not be legal for anyone to Buy as long as the right plate wasn't there?
