That's how I practice my mil-dot ranging math. Look across the "lake" [retention basin] through the NF 2.5-10 [that I got from Belmont, thank you sir] and try to calculate the distance using the people who walk by... LOL Hope no one sees me laying on my kitchen floor... This is NJ after all

Burris euro diamond 1X4 illumined. As you can see the illumination is not daylight visible. Target was about 40yrs away.
    1X without illumination.

    4X without illumination.

    1X with illumination.

    4X with illumination.

IMO, the "need" for daylight visible illum on a crosshair-type reticle is way over rated. unless you are using a RDS or other sight in which the entire aiming point is the illum, then that would suck...

but as you can see, you don't need illum in bright light - the cross hairs perfectly show you where to aim. what would be gained by having them glow???

an illum reticle comes into it's own when the light is dim enough that the reticle can't be distinguished from the background. in light that dim, the illum would be visible.

I agree that illumination is not needed in daylight but I thought I would point it out. My only complaint with the scope was how small and dim the dot was. Then again it was not made as a tactical scope but more for hunting.

I don't want to take this pic thread any further off topic and create a debate/discussion, and I apologize to the OP that I have already.

But I want to ask just one further question regarding this particular optic -- do you know if you had aimed at one of the darker areas in the trees to the left (let's pretend there's an animal standing in the deep shade), would the illum then become visible against that background?
