Could someone explain what other factors should be considered when trying to determine if an AR is top tier or not.
Top tier rifles have proven themselves. ST has not.

Now, because of the information compiled by Rob S and many other members giving input and assistance you wish to bite the hand that fed you a good meal? Shame on you, if you want to be a Spikes fanboy go ahead. But be forewarned until I personally see a Spikes in LE/MIL file footage under austere conditions, I will stick with the products that have been there.
Wow you totally missed my tone of question. I wasn't trying to start any kind of pissing match here. I do own a spikes and I do like it but I can assure you I meant no disrespect to anyone on this forum. Was just saying it can be confusing to a noob like me when you look at the chart and 2 rifles compare the same but one is considered better so I was asking what other factors should be considered when comparing quality. Please I'm not trying to be a troll here.

I think we should all come together and support each other as part of the gun community.
we have enough people against our hobby/sport/defense without fighting with each other.
All of us who enjoy shooting sports do not have to use the same equipment to have fun.
To a point I agree. There's no reason a second tier weapon might not make a fine range toy or hunting gun.

Maybe there needs to be separate forums for AR's that see serious use versus range toys? The serious use forums would only allow discussion of AR's that meet certain quality standards? Maybe that would cut down on the clutter of threads like this and running the mods ragged?

    Just a thought....

C-grunt quite literally summed it up. If ST just wants to put tic marks in boxes and claim they are on par with Colt/DD/BCM, etc... Fine, but it doesn't give them the same status since their business model is geared towards dirt shooting versus "duty" use. This should clarify the argument some.

    Sorry,

I won't support companies that build crap and use sneaky marketing ploys to sell their products. I am not stabbing at Spike's in general, I am talking the market as a whole.

Weapons like the AK47, AR15, M1A, etc...should be considered fighting weapons first.

Punching dirt, paper, etc...should be an after thought of the original intent. I don't believe in "range toys" or "dirt clod busters".

Hunting guns should be every bit as capable as a self defense weapon, lest you want an angry pissed off animal attacking you.

    Just an observation

I haven't been a member here long. This is my first post besides a picture. I do not get to shoot a lot and do not claim to have much experience. I do, however, consider myself an intelligent person, eager to learn and a student of the weapon platform. I spend at least an hour a day, sometimes much more, reading threads here trying to learn as much as I can from the experience of others. I have a deep genuine respect and trust for those here, like rob_s, iraqgunz, stickman, grant, etc, that keep this site factual, educational, and have truely earned their titles as mods and professionals. But being an avid reader and a person who comes here to learn from real experts I can't help but notice the influx of frustrating, ignorant threads. There seems to be a great deal of folks with low post counts and no proven experience that are quick to respond with limited experience as "fact." There is also a whole lot of new threads where the OP has obviously done no work on their own, no searching, to answer the question before asking. I apologize for being off-topic. This thread seems to fit into the category I described. I am sorry for venting but flavor of this thread seemed at least a semi-adequate place to voice my concerns. On a side note, I want to say thank you to the men that keep this site accurate and educational. I also want to say from the bottom of my heart a sincere thank you to those that serve our communities as LE and those that put their lives on the line for our freedom in the military both here and abroad. I appreciate the hard work of the mods here and want to encourage y'all to keep up the hard work even through frustrating times. Your work does not go unnoticed. You really do help alot of us quiet readers

After years of observation, and reading I have come to the conclusion that the more an AR Manufacturer's roll mark resembles flash art in a tattoo parlor the gun will be equally bad in direct proportion. Think of it like a scale if need be...

The only thing I like from Spikes is the stripped lowers. Hate the damn spider logo though. I can back up the fact that the lowers are good, no, that the 2 I have are. My training rifle uses a Spikes lower, but everything else came from BCM. Its had maybe 3500 rounds through it, maybe more. My other Spikes lower has over 1k through it, but its all BCM besides the lower too. Im actually having the 1k lower SBR'd right now. In my experience, they are ok complete rifles. Not on the level of BCM or Colt, but very few are. I only wish they would come up with a differant damn logo though.
