Your department's Bushy should be registered as a machine gun. In that case barrel length restrictions won't apply. Going off the picture, the barrel looks to be 14.5 to the muzzle. The FH is going to extend beyond that.

Also, it would be wise to take Iraqgunz's advice

edit: damn I must be slow at typing

    1. Put a Colt extractor spring assembly in it.

    2. Put at least an H buffer and maybe even an H2. Check to make sure it will run with your duty and training ammo.

    3. Make sure that the BCG is staked properly, my guess is it is not.

    4. Make sure that the castle nut is staked properly.
These are Upgrades you could do yourself .
Do a few searches on what IR said to do

Take home or work only? At my PD they are issued at the beginning of your tour and returned at the end for the next shift.

Take home everything. Car, gun, Taser, Toughbook, etc.

Those who have worked for a Police agency of any size know the restrictions on modifying weapons. On dept. issued you don't do it at all, unless the operations orders say you can. Even on personally owned weapons, if you use them "on-duty", the dept. also regulates what you can do and what you can't.

The best bet is to talk real nice to your dept. armorer, suggest how the listed modifications would enhance the performance and reliability of the weapon without any shortcomings, and see if he will do it for you.

Dealing with administrative issues can be a real PITA, but what choice do you have if you don't want it taken away from you?

^ Exactly. Policy says no mods. I could see the collective heart attacks as I try to explain to the brass about staking the carrier bolts or changing the extractor springs. I'll get the "they've worked fine for the last few years, why change them now" speech.

Aside from the extractor spring issue, I don't consider staking a castle nut and BCG as a modification- that's how it is supposed to be done.

If their armorer is worth anything then he will immediately see the light and bring it up.

I find it curious that they have a policy about "modifying" weapons, but apparently nothing about how, when and why they can be used.

If it were my ass on the line, I would damn sure bring it up and and let someone know that it is a potential LIABILITY.
