As a guy who runs an Eotech 552 on his work rifle because that is the way it is configured I recommend you take a good look at the Aimpoint Pro package. Don't worry about lens size, it isn't about looking through the tube like shooting a scope, it is about seeing the dot with both eyes open and superimposing the dot on the target, after a while of shooting a red-dot you'll stop cleaning the glass because it just doesn't matter.

If you're paying out of pocket, you should really consider the Aimpoint Pro. At $400, it sounds like great bargain. Not much in the way of user reports, but it's apparently old and proven technology. The actual purchase process has been a little muddled, but it currently appears that they're OK for agency purchase. Contact SKD Tactical or maybe G&R Tactical about that.

From a cost standpoint, next best choice might be an Eotech XPS series, or better yet an OPMOD at $495 (no-NV version of EXPS3). Downside there might be battery life, depending on your needs and application, if 500 hour battery life and 8 hour auto-off doesn't work for you.

The T-1 is a nice optic, but you may find that 20mm is a small tube for picking up the red dot quickly.

Seeing as how I live three hours away from Phoenix and everyone I know has EOTechs, I don't see that happening, which is precisely why I posted here. Thanks anyway though.

Could have sworn I read somewhere that wasn't available for individual officer purchase... I'll look into it.

Question How are you going to mount the rifle?

That should be a consideration when choosing an optic. Some optics will not allow a rifle to fit into certain mounts with the optic in place. As far as shooting at 100 yards, good luck with target ID at those distances, especially in reduced light. You may be better off starting with a weapon light first and continue to research an optic for addition later.

Our patrol guys get iron sights but our SWAT rifles get Eotechs. I have a 512 for work and a 551 for my personal weapon. I have never had an issue with them and I prefer them over anything with magnification for my uses. I've shot 6inch plates at 85 yards with no issues. I like the XPS but I just didn't have the money to get a new one. I change the batteries every 6 months at most and don't worry about them going down. I keep spares but neither sight sees enough use to burn them up that quickly.

I WAS running an eotech 512 on my patrol rifle until the projector lens came loose rattling around in the optic at the range ( never dropped w/ 400 rounds on it) so I sent it back and got it fixed and sold it. I now run an H1 and it's awesome I never worry about the battery and its always ready. If u don't want a micro get the aimpoint pro and never look back. And for the record the eotech was great and I liked the reticle and 1moa dot but if that lens came loose on the side of the road or during a search warrant id be screwed.

DD has a lightweight, tall mount for the Aimpoint Micro's if you don't need to worry about taking the sight off frequently. Market price is around $65.

rob_s started a survey yesterday. Member Survey: Which Red Dot Sight (& mount) do you use and why? It's getting to have quite a bit of good information in it. You can at least read some reasons why people chose what they use over the other options available.
