Need a little help, BCM or DD upper?

I have been using the search button for hours now and it has led me to some questions. I wan't to get me a 16" upper AR with two uses in mind. First it will serve as a truck gun for coyotes and other ranch vermin, second it will serve as a match gun for 2 gun matches (in that order). Thank god I was pointed to this site and away from the RR I was looking at, I now see that I wouldn't have been happy going in that direction.

I am looking at uppers now and will put togather a lower in a month or two. What I am looking at is the 16" BCM mid length with DD 12'' rail. Or the DD 16" upper with the same rail. Can some one tell me why the BCM is 200 bucks more? I haven't read anything bad about eathier of them.

I am tossed up about the battlecomp, I have never been a fan of brakes on anything smaller than the 338-378 but I have heard and read so much good stuff about them that now I want one. Am I in danger of breaking windows in my truck with the battle comp when smoking down dogs from the drivers seat? I only ask cause my 375 HnH cost me a jeep windshield with no brake on it.

My current AR is a LBC super varmint .204, it has been great for what its meant for but is pretty much the opposite of what I want in my next AR. I have alot of time with the M16 A2 as that is what I carried on both of my deployments, I had limited time with the M4. I trust you all will shoot me stright.

What websites are you looking at? I assume bravocompany for the BCM, but what about the DD?

edit: links to each page would be helpful.

I would throw a link to "The Chart" in right here but it's currently being revised. I can't list the differences between the two off the top of my head but I can say that I'm getting a 16" BCM middy and 10" DD Lite rail. I'm sure there are plenty here that can lend some info to help inform you better.

    .375 H&H? That's one hell of a lot more cartridge than a 5.56mm.

Links would help with the upper thing. $200 sounds about the price for a BCG so check to see if one includes it and one doesnt.

    thanks for the help

I wasn't sure if one came with a bcg and one did not, thats what I was hoping some one here would know off the top of their head. Here is the links to the two uppers in question:

    http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BCM-1...fh%20ddl12.htm

    http://www.smartgunner.com/DanielDefenseLiteURG.aspx

I see that I can pick up bcm BCG for about 160$ wich seems pretty reasonable. If there is a cheaper place to get the BCM upper than shoping at the BCM website I would love to know about it.

As far as the battlecomp goes I want to shoot one before I spend the money on one. I know that for match use it will prop kick ass I just don't want to deal with the extra noise and blast the rest of the time it it isn't needed, I personaly don't "need" a brake on a 5.56 for wayward coyotes.

Well right now DD gives you cold hammer forged about $90 less than BCM. And smartgunner has good prices which would get you to about a $200 savings overall. I bought a DD from them over their end of year sale and other than the understandable waiting period all went well. Nothing to fear from DD or SG. (Except SG will ding your CC immediately even if you have to wait a month for assembly/delivery.)

    ETA:
Neither would have a BCG or charging handle included unless you add them to your order. SG sells a DD BCG for $157.

I have one of each and like them both equally.

If you decide to go the DD route, I had a good experience dealing with Kevin @ Johnson Tactical. He does a lot of work w/ DD -

FWIW, the DD is going to have a CFH barrel; BCM offers some hammer forged barrels as a ($100) option.

Another source for a "custom built" DD upper is Smartgunner.com

I've been eyeing the Smartgunner DD uppers, has anyone ordered one recently, if so how long did it take to get it, I see they are out of stock. With a price like that, its worth waiting.

It all depends on what you order and if it's in stock or hopelessly backordered. Right now there's a run on LW midlength barrels and other parts. Seems like even BCGs are hard to get, anywhere - DD or BCM. That's what happened last time SG had a sale and orders could go out in a week or two - or two months, it just depended on what was in stock. Like you I felt like it was worth waiting and in the end it was.
