I'm looking at the bare gov't profile mid length upper. I plan on putting the MOE handguards on it. I'm building on a budget, so the price on the DD CHF barreled upper is the best I've seen. I'll probably order one and wait and see how long it takes. In the meantime, I have other guns to shoot, just no AR's, this will be my first.

That's what happened last time SG had a sale and orders could go out in a week or two - or two months, it just depended on what was in stock. Like you I felt like it was worth waiting and in the end it was.
Just about everything DD is running behind in production right now and has been for a few months. But, a good deal of folks are ordering now and waiting things out.

I doubt that it will take longer than a month for DD to get caught back up, but that is an assumption on my part. Sometimes we get lucky and catch a wholesaler who's DD order arrives before our direct order, which is a pretty happy day Last I was looking, 14.5 DD barrels stripped we're still available, so if you could wrap a build around that, it might speed things up. Also BCM's inventory comes in and out a pretty regular intervals.

I am droping an order to SG for the 16" mid govt profile with 12" lite rail. I ain't in a huge hurry so if it takes a couple weeks thats fine, gives me time to get a lower orderd up. The DD saves me a couple hundred over the BCM which will get me a good trigger. I am looking foward to buying 5.56 rounds instead of .204 since they are about half the price.

    Thanks all for the info.

I saved over $250 by ordering from SG over buying locally and I would guess about $200 over other online sources for a DD upper. I waited two months for mine which was worth it to me. Just remember to call when you have questions for SG, he answers the phone more reliably than answering emails in my experience.

eta: And you won't be disappointed with your DD upper, you can feel the quality and it shoots like a dream

I ordered my upper from SG the last day of the sale and it took about 2 1/2 months to get here. It was worth the wait though. I just wish they were still producing their stripped lowers.

It might take a little longer than two weeks. The DD upper I ordered from SG came directly from DD in about 5 weeks. It was well worth the wait. Didn't have a hat or decals in the box but saving a couple hundred, no complaints. I went with the 16" LW instead of govt profile and have been real happy with it.

I ordered a DD upper from Smartgunner back in December and after a 3 month wait with no end in sight, I canceled the order. Then, I turned to BCM ... ordered the upper on a Monday and it was at my front door on Thursday.

I ordered from SG on 12/26 and still have yet to recieve my order or even have the build start. And be advised they charge your credit card immediately. Not complaining, but the extended wait has definitely sucked the excitement out of the purchase.

If BCM has what you want, in stock I'd highly suggest that option. Its a few bucks more to go that way, but atleast you will have it in a few days. Going the SG custom order route you might just end up waiting as long as I have, or even longer. Seems like quite a few of the major AR makers (BCM, DD, ST) are having problems keeping things in stock.
