My co-owner and I are both reserve Deputy Sheriffs, and our staff is made up of off-duty local LEO and Deputies. We have arrested 2 people for various illegal munitions in the past 15 years. Word gets around pretty easily. It does cause a bit of a stomach ache when the guy you pulled over last night comes in to shoot today.

And I wouldn't be shooting at your range. Not that I have any AP but I wouldn't support a business thats employees/owners arrest people for something that should be legal in the first place.

I'm also curious what ammunition specifically is banned. Are you actually arresting people for M885/SS109, or legitimate M995? Both are sometimes advertised as armor piercing...but only one actually is.

Presumably you're in Texas, if so what county?

So you have my curiousity peaked. What illegal aummunition did you catch them with? I didn't realize that counties have specific laws or ordinances against certain types of ammo. Seems rather piontless when it is already covered under Federal and State law.

I can imagine that shooting at your place must be alot of fun. Exactly the reason why I shoot in the open.

The law is the law, I respect that. But I wonder if it wasn't a simple case of someone buying something at a local gun show that didn't realize it's illegal to have.

Since .30 cal M2 AP has been classified as NOT armor-piercing by the ATF, yet obviously was by the US Military, what constitutes AP in this county? Just curious. Seriously.

If you do some research you will see it primarily refers to handgun ammo. Also M995 is AP ammo and I presume that it is also restricted. Do a Google search for Federal Laws armor piercing ammunition.

I am more familiar with the AP laws than you would know.

My question was in regards to what his COUNTY regards as AP since they have (or what seems to be) a blanket outlaw on it. My reference to the .30-'06 AP was alluding to the fact that the term AP does not always equal true AP or even Federal recognition as AP.

I agree. Which is why I am still waiting for an answer to my question.

The local ranges around here aren't bad. The prices are fair, the owners and operators are friendly and knowledgable. They don't carry a lot of higher end kit, but they've stayed open late and come in early for me, so I can get some range time in by myself.

Shooting on base is normally pretty good, but feels too much like work.
