What would you guys do in this situation?

I currently only have 1 AR and Ive been looking to put together a lightweight SBR for my wife as she is small woman who has trouble shouldering my 16" AR and aiming in. I was thinking about putting something together for her that should could handle better. I was planning on filling out the ATF forms this month and applying for my tax stamp. Would most likely be a 4 month wait before I got my stamp, then I would have to buy the parts and put her rifle together.

I want her to have a rifle to back me up incase SHTF come 2012. But with parts becoming scarce right now, only likely getting worse in the future what would you guys do? Would you fill out the ATF forms and wait the 4/5 months on the stamp to put together a SBR that my wife would be able to operate much better? Or would you put together a 16" AR for her and tell her to make the best of what shes got? I dont have the money to buy an 16" AR now and then get her a SBR later. I only have the money for one rifle.

get a 16" carbine-length gassed barrel, and have it cut down to your desired length once the stamp comes back.

Would not put a lot of money into a rifle she will probably never use. I would save $200 and get a lightweight 16 inch. Put some kind of a bipod on it and she should have no trouble using it, if the need arises.

my wife's billet/stainless/expensive rifle sat in the safe unfired for 3 years before i finally started stealing parts from it.

i don't know how often you get her to the range, but it she doesn't shoot much now, she's probably not going to shoot much later.

Can I ask how small your wife is? Mine is 5'2" and can handle the 6920 I got her (yeah she is that good) with out a problem. Could it be something besides her stature that is the problem?
In today's world one of the best things you can do for your child; Get them in Scouting, stay with them in the program, and encourage them to stay in.

I'd get one of these before they run out.

Every time I'm able to make it to the range my wife comes with me. She is a good sport and likes shooting, because she wants to make me proud. Which is why I want to buy her a rifle that she will enjoy because she will be shooting it just as much as ill be shooting mine.

My wife is a little bit taller than 5'2 and weighs just over 100pds. She is just not very strong at all, and my rifle is a little top heavy for her and I think she might be a little intimidated by the size of the rifle. The way I see it a SBR would just be that much better for her because of the lighter weight and I know she will like the idea of a shorter barrel because of its portability. Plus she doesn't need to shoot out to 500 yards so a SBR would work. But I'm not sure if I'm going to want to wait 5 months before I get her a SBR with all that's going on right now. I just have no idea how bad things can get, with no parts being available, like it did with the previous Obama scare; as I got out of the military in 07 and did not get back into shooting and collecting until recently.

Not an april fools joke. I feel the wife and I should each have a rifle regardless, especially considering parts are hard to get now and will only get harder to get later on, and whether or not anything crazy happens with the 2012 elections or whether or not its going to be the end of the world, I want my wife to have my back with a rifle slung on her back. So laugh all you want cause you're obviously not contributing to anything.
