Input On The Nightforce FC2 Reticle

I am planning on picking up a Nightforce 1-4 FC2 this weekend and was looking for some input from folks who have been running it or are familiar with it.

I will be running it on my LaRue 18" Stealth in an SPR type role. I primarily use this rifle for shooting steel out to 500 yards at known distances. I am not a big group shooter and if shooting for tight groups I am using a NF 3.5-15 W/MLR for that role.

My hope is that it will be fast from 50-300 yds but I am not familiar with this particular reticle so any feedback would be great.

D90, I don't own one, but have looked at it and evaluated it on other people's guns when I was considering my NF purchase. I went with a more traditional reticle on my 2.5-10 NF as some users reported that FC covers too much of a target at longer distances. I think this might be a concern if you're going out to 500.

That was perfect! I am not planning to go out to 500 with this optic. Like I said it will be used in the 50-300 yd range at known distances. I have a NF 3.5-15 MLR for long range precision work...

    Thanks again!

    d90king,

I have one and have no issues with how it performs.

The internal dot is just fine & does exactly what it should do @ those distances which is aid in fast target acqusition without cluttering the SP but be easy to acquire in high stress dump situation.

As you stated your not looking for 500 yd shots which is a different animal so to speak.

For an 18'', I'd go 2.5-10x24. Get one while you can.

I dont want the size or need the magnification for what I'm doing with this rifle. I want something fast from 50-300 and this fits the bill.

I have the 3.5-15 for any long range stuff... That will go on the OBR after I am finished with my current projects...

    .
D90, 2.5-10x24 is the same size as their 1-4...

I hear you on not needing the magnification though; besides, I don't think -10x24 can be had any longer. I am taking mine with conventional reticle to Pat Rogers class in 2 weeks. All of shooting in that class is inside 50; I am curious how much 2.5 mag at the lower end will slow me down.

    1-4x is a bit better on a 14.5 or 16''.

The compact 2.5-10x24 really hits the spot on something like a 16'' or 18'' spr/recce.

Why would I ever want 10X on a 5.56 rifle that I am running inside 300 yds? I'm shooting steel 12x12 8x8 6x6... I have no interest in using this for shooting groups. If I was going to that magnification level I would only use a Mil-Dot or MLR reticle I wouldn't use the FC2 reticle...

I dont like variables on my carbines as I find them heavy and I am slower with them... I will be running this prone and I wont be humping it for classes etc so I don't mind the weight on an already heavy rifle.

I am really waiting on the S&B 1-8 as I think that will be perfect for a .308 out to 500.
