knowledgeable people please step in ,i could be wrong but with my shells not ejecting as far as they were before the A5 i believe the bcg has a little more dwell time before going back battery which promotes reliability. if you can pull the trigger that fast, that is more than i have seen, I do not have that issue, i am more concerned about making accurate hits, fast and it keeps up just fine.

The only gun that the A5 can fudge up... in my experience is a 14.5 middy... and Vltor has a lighter buffer specifically for those guns.

My 14.5 middy will run it, but it's sluggish... and not ideal for a fighting gun.

Can you elaborate a little more on why? thanks

The 14.5 middy doesn't work optimally with the rifle buffer... or the A5 which is effectively a rifle buffer.

The 16 inch middy runs silly... so I'm guessing that there's just not quite enough duel time. Vltor said they have a lighter buffer specifically for the 14.5 middy users.

The 14.5" middy is a fundamentally flawed concept.

Why would someone have all this non-standard stuff to make the gun work instead of just having a 14.5" carbine length gas.

Midlength has become a buzzword. People are begining to equate anything with "midlength" is automatically good.

This is a chart I pulled off of here way back when... don't remember the thread I pulled it from, but I was under the impression that the 14.5 Middie most closely resembled the original rifle length in recoil and function due to the parallel dwell time and was thus a great idea. Is this chart incorrect? What am I missing here? Thanks

    Dwell Time Chart info
proper ratio of between 60-65%. it's an improvement over both previous options.

it's an indicator, not a rule:

    14.5 carbine - 52%
    14.5 mid - 65%
    16.1 carbine -47%
    16.1 mid - 59%
    18 mid - 53%
    18 intermediate - 64%
    18 rifle - 69%
    20 rifle - 63%

What are the components of the ratio?

I cannot vouch for the info in this chart, but here's something related:

    http://ar15barrels.com/tech/pressure-time.gif

The numbers listed above are the ratio of position of gas port over the length of the barrel. For instance a 14.5 middy is 249/368.
