    14" African build

I gave away my Ghetto RECCE build before I could mount a scope on it:

I decided to build an Afghan, but I didn't want to pay $365 for a Rainier barrel or $450 for a Noveske barrel, so I searched and found a 14.5" 416 SS 1/8 barrel made by Black Hole Weaponry; I paid $155 shipped for it from Surplus Ammo & Arms. Since I wanted to keep the rifle below $2,300 like a new Noveske Afghan, I decided to call it a 14" African. Here she is:

    Stag lower: $125 new local
LAR blem upper $60 shipped TOS EE
    RRA UPK $20 local
    PSA LPK $50 shipped
    PSA BCG $120 shipped
    DSA/PSA RE kit $50 shipped
    BWA 14" 416 Stainless Steel 1/8 twist barrel $155 shipped SA&A
    Troy MFR-MX 10" $150 shipped TOS EE
Used AAC Blackout 51T $50 Black Weapons Armory
YHM gas black and RRA gas tube $50 BWA
    Pin & weld $75 BWA
MI SPLP $70 shipped TOS EE
BCM Gunfighter pre-production $27 shipped (I bought 4 from BCM)
    Barrel nut $6 local

    Leftovers from previous builds:
MOE grip & trigger guard $30 shipped from AIM
    CTR $92 shipped from AIM
    Noveske endplate $27 local

The excellent gunsmith at BWA noticed my barrel looked short when I brought it in to pin & weld a Y/M flash hider and sure enough the barrel was only 14", he gave me his used AAC Blackout for $50 and with a peel washer the barrel was 16.12". I was happy. The gunsmith said the African weighed in at 6.7 pounds; Would that qualify as a "Skinny"?

So, my ghetto rifle still needs an ADM Recon to mount a 1-4 Nikon M223 to complete the African build. I hope the barrel shoots as well as the net buzz says they do.

Noveske owns "Afghan" and it's a much more refined rifle. Recon Scout would work, but it's a Cold Steel knife, and a nice one at that. I had to make it something else. 14" barrel, put together from used/discounted parts.

Her name is Claire. She is a 14" African.

A barrel from a no-name supplier that was cut to the wrong length. How did you measure OAL once the FH was installed?

When I read the title I thought it was gping to be something along the lines of a .450 Bushmaster 0r .458 SOCOM with a 14" barrel.

For some reason I thought the same thing. Something like a .458 SOCOM 11.5" SBR piston. Kinda like the AR equivalent of this

OP, if you like your build, congratulations and enjoy it! But what's "african" about it?

You need to measure from the bolt face by dropping a small dowel down the bore and marking it to be sure that you're not toting around an unregistered SBR. Most flash hiders will just make legal length on a 14.5" bbl.

It's a 14" barrel, we had to use an AAC Blackout 51T suppressor mount with a peel washer to give us a comfortable 16.12"; Africa may be lawless but my African isn't.
