    Poll on 10.5" Buffer/Ammo Combination

A great discussion of which weight of buffer to use in an LMT 10.5" can be found in the below threads, but I would like to poll those who run 10.5" barrels (factory 10.5" barrels, not longer barrels cut down to 10.5"), to see what buffers each uses and with which ammo types unsuppressed.
The intent here is to see how much variation there is in reliability with different ammo types, buffer weights, and barrel makes (reliability here meaning locking back the bolt on an empty mag and no short-stroking).
Also, please state what round count your barrel has and whether you could begin using a heavier buffer at higher round counts than you could get away with before.
    Please also note barrel manufacturer.

    https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread...ht=buffer+10.5

Here is an example of what I am looking for:
Barrel type: 10.5" LMT, medium contour, MRP barrel.
    Round count: 3,000.
    BCG: LMT FA.
    Buffer weight: H2
    Muzzle attachment: standard A2 FH.
    Spring Type: Standard carbine.
Reliability: Runs fine with this buffer weight unsuppressed and the following ammo types: Wolf, Brown Bear, Winchester WB 5.56, M855, and Mk262.
Subjective estimate of felt recoil: shoots as soft as a 14.5" carbine with a standard buffer, but much more oomph than a 16" middy. One could also include here the reason or why one prefers this combination.

A standard spring and a H2 buffer worked perfectly in my LMT 10.5" unsuppressed.
All ammo types, 7500 rounds or so.

Barrel type: Rock 10.5" LMT, medium contour, MRP barrel.
    Round count: 4500-5000rds.
    BCG: LMT F/A BCG
Buffer weight:SR-15(CAR..?) and currently an H buffer
Muzzle attachment: standard A2 FH, BAC 2.0.
    Spring Type: Standard carbine.
Reliability: 100% thus w. 2 failures to hold the bolt..(very well may be mag related)
unsuppressed and the following ammo types: All types of Hornady, BH's, Barnes TSX, Winchester WB 5.56(S Korean "Q", M855, and Mk262, PRZI 55gr.fmjbt, and several others..basically anything with a brass case.
Subjective estimate of felt recoil: Rather sharply...I enjoy a bit of recoil on these guns for one reason or another.

Thanks, Trident. That's exactly what I was looking for!
JodyH, what type of BCG are you using? Is this an MRP barrel or the standard LMT? Could you give some specific examples other than "all ammo types?" Thanks

    Barrel type: 10.5" Noveske SS
    Round count: ~2000
    BCG: Noveske (CMT) FA
    Buffer weight: H
    Muzzle attachment: AAC Breakout
    Spring Type: Standard
    Reliability: 100%

I started out with an H buffer. I ran Xm193, S&B 193, PMC, PMC Bronz, SS 109, Wolf 55gr, and Wolf 62gr. All ran 100%. When I added a suppressor, I had to go to an H2 buffer due to bolt not holding open on last round. If it matters, I did build this gun. All parts are Noveske though.

This was on a friend's upper while he was waiting on his stamp, so I got to use it for a little while.

Barrel type: 10.5" Noveske chf barrel - "Mk18 type" upper

    Round count: just under 1,000

    BCG: BCM F/A

Buffer weight: H2 then Vltor A5 then later tried an additional tungsten weight.

    Muzzle attachment: standard A2 FH

Spring Type: standard cs carbine then standard cs rifle

Reliability: this gun ran fine unsuppressed and fine for the 90 rounds it had through it suppressed. I had two double feeds, obviously due to the magazine.

Felt recoil the recoil was less than I expected compared to my 10.5" LMT I had a few years ago (standard 10.5" upper, not my MRP). The Vltor A5 made for a much smoother system as well. I found my times were just a little slower during VTAC-type drills as they are with my SR15's with the A5 and Triple Tap brakes. I imagine more time on the gun would bring those up, and to be fair, it did have an A2 compared to the brakes on my SR15's.

Since this, I've decided to do another 10.5" upper and am going with a Mk18 type as well. I really enjoyed this gun. Not sure what it'll do better than my 11.5" that I'm fishing up this month, but it's worth having regardless.

Ammo I used mostly LC xm193, about 120 rounds of Hornady 75 grain TAP and about 60 or 90 rounds of Nosler 77 grain OTM 5.56.

Standard LMT, BCM M16 bcg, all ammo means every .223 and 5.56 I tried worked. I shoot everything except steel case.

Tagged for data for my two incoming LMT 10.5's (thanks Grant)... I am hoping to see some guys having success with the A5. I want to use that setup on the MK18 MOD1 clone...

Winfield, did you measure your port? Do you know if its the standard .071? I believe that's what the factory SBR's I am getting will have but am not positive.

I have not pulled my gas block to measure my port. I am running the 10.5" LMT MRP Medium contour listed in my example, and as I understand it, LMT gas ports tend to be small and for 10.5" should be between .68 to .70--somebody feel free to chime in if this is wrong.

Thanks all for the responses so far, and J Krammes, it's fine that your rifle is self-built; the only thing I wanted to be factory for this poll is the barrel, so that the gas port sizes are factory spec for the barrel length (as would not usually be the case if one cut a 16" barrel down to10.5").

We have our side of the deck slightly stacked...angled drilled gas ports
