x300 falling off gun

Hey guys,

If this is in the wrong forum mods feel free to move. I just recently started carrying my g19 with surefire x300 in a raven concealment rig and took it out to the range this past weekend and put roughly about 200rds downrange and had the surefire fall off the gun 2 times. Has anyone else any problems with anything like this? I emailed surefire I'm just awaiting their answer. for what its worth I'm using the U latch on it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a dedicted Glock latch outside of the U latch? I've noticed the U latch is a little loose on Glocks but extremely tight on M&Ps. The other rails fall somewhere in the middle. I believe a SA Operator was the loosest fit I'd seen with the U latch.

Are you getting a "click" when mounting it? Is it wobbly when mounted or just flies off when firing?

yes, to all of the above really. When I put it on there is a very positive "click", there is very little forward and backward wobble. And yes just randomly it would just fall off forward during recoil.

I don't think there should be any wobble at all when the light is mounted.

There definately shouldn't be any wobble. However I've found the U latch does present some wobble on Glocks. To be fair, it was EXTREMELY tight on my Daniel Defense rail, so I may have worn it down some from removing it. The first time mounting it on the DD Rail, I was scared it wouldn't come off. It took a lot of pulling and scraped knuckles to remove it.

To mount on an M&P, I often have to push the light against a table to get the "click". Hope Surefire takes care of you.

Maybe do a bunch of draws to ensure nothing is engaging the QD levers? I HIGHLY doubt its the RCS holster, but it cancels out one more thing for when you talk with Surefire.

I've been using a G19/G17/300 combo for more than 4 years, and the light has never left the rail inadvertently - nor is there any slop.

Sorry, but I have no idea what latch system I used.

FYI: Only prob I had was that cotter pin that keeps the battery door secured [s]prevented[/s] hindered me from reholstering in a 6004. And of course I installed that pin just before a class, had to excuse myself from the firing line for a second while I figured out what was wrong, etc.

Have you tried using the using the rail lock system? I believe I was running the U latch on my Glock without issue but can't remember now.

I would be surprised if this doesn't correct the problem, but I'd still like to hear what Surefire has to say about it.

I've never experienced this with my Surefire lights...seen it a bunch with the TLR-1 when the screw isn't properly tightened. I have two X300s and two X200s.



What I would look at:

-Are you 100% positive the light is properly attached? I've never had a problem getting mine on my G19 and G23, but on the G30 I have found it advantageous to put the light on the (unloaded) gun and press down against a hard surface to get it to click in to the slot.

-Is there any chance that something in the molding of your holster or in your draw stroke is causing the release tabs to catch on the holster surface and pulling the crossbar down from and slightly out of the rail channel?

You may also consider using the rail lock parts that the others mentioned.

The "U" piece is for the "universal rail" while the "P" piece is for picatinny rails. If you are finding the "U" piece extremely tight on your AR or M&P, it's because the "P" piece should be used. Obviously not all handgun rails are completely in spec, but any decent AR rail system should be.
