Finally had a great day at the range to really work on zeroing in my LMT MWS. My best results were achieved with Prime Ammo 175 HPBT ammo. Five round group. 100 yards. Temp: 45. .37 MOA from my LMT MWS 20" SS Barrel with Fat Bastard Brake, Nightforce NXS 2.5-20 scope, Geissele SSA trigger, Harris bipod. Bench rested, rear bean bag.
At 400 yards, I was routinely smacking a 4" steel plate dead center. The wind was slight.
Next best performing ammo for me and this rifle is Federal GMM 175gr SMK, not 168gr. With the SMK I was getting consistent .5-.6 MOA groups. Then following the Federal GMM...American Eagle OTM 168gr, said to be made specifically for the M1A (gimmick?). I was getting .6-.7 groups with it. Go figure.
But at 400 yards on steel plates I was easily smacking them around with cheap Mayalasian surplus (30 year old stuff).
My range does not go past 400 yards, so I'm looking forward to stretching it out further in the future.
And this, my friends, is what I call more than "good enough" when it comes to precision rifle shooting with a .308 Semi-Auto. Others no doubt can do better, but this was my best in a long time. Glad I moved over to LMT. At 400 yards on a large steel plate I had it swinging nearly as fast as I could pull the trigger. Fun times.
