    Comment: LM308MWSE in Piston? Yes/No

    Is it...
    - Never going to happen?
    - An idea?
    - Being planned?
    - In-development?
    - In-testing?
    - Being built?
    - 1, 2, 3, 5, 10-years from now?

Just curious, want to plan this year's purchase.

(Happy owner of LMT MRP CQB Piston, want one in .308 or .300 WinMag)

I love the disclaimer on the historical e-mail below, that was a thing in the past wasn't it? But none of this is privilaged information nor trade secret information protected by any law or contract so I hope that nobody takes offense in me quoting it. It was a definite "No" back in 2013, not a "we're working on a Super Secret Squirrel Project that we can neither confirm nor deny!"
It appears that it only took 7-years for LMT to make a Piston 308 MWS!

And here I went and bought a direct-impingement one last week off GunBroker right before the riots started and the election crazyiness gun buy-out is about to hit high-swing again. I've only been waiting 10-years to get a LMT 308 MWS and 7-years after I got my LMT MRP CQB.

(I'm still catching up on this thread, almost done with post #1,240 from 2014 out of #3,000... Only 1,760 more posts to read. )

I'm still assembling all the parts and accessories for my new LMT 308 MWS, Gen 2, 16" CL 1:10 BBL, Hand Cheese Grater Rails, S/N: LMS168xx, and have a few questions while I catch up on the 3k posts on this thread since 2011.

    13.5" 7.62 1:10" Chrome Lined ($529 Out-of-Stock)
    or
    13.5" 7.62 1:11.25" Stainless Steel ($649 In-Stock).

Which one to get for long term?

Any reason to avoid the Stainless Steel that is in stock now?

The consensus seems to be that the original 16" 1:10 CL was a tack driver. How about the 13.5" 1:11.25 SS now from 2020?

I am aware of the optimal twist rate for barrels based on bullet weight & length so a smaller ratio imparts more spin to stability heavier/longer bullets. That CL 1:10" barrel seems to be designed for heavy 168+/175gr+ bullets while the SS 1:11.25" one for 168-175gr bullets. I'm also aware that the SS version will wear out slightly faster than the CL version but does that matter all that much?

I have my LMT MRP CQB Form 1 for SBR with 5-barrels already so will most likely Form 1 SBR the MWS so length or pinning & welding the SureFire Muzzle Break is not really an issue.

Additionally, off-subject I want to say that I'm really enjoying reading this thread from the 2011 beginning because I'm seeing very old posts asking about the availability of the of the slick LM8 models before the new MLK (M-Lok) models come out after the original 1913 Picatinny Rail (Hand Cheese Grater) model.

I'm also seeing the questions regarding the limited runs of 13" and 13.5" barrels back from ~2013-2014 for special orders and looking back at those questions is quite interesting to see the progression since 13.5" barrels are available now along with pinned flash-suppressor battle rifle 16" being listed for sale. Things that were asked about years before they became available to the civilian and retail market.

It seems like LMT is first waiting for the requests from military and law-enforcement for special productions and once they become popular enough they offer them to the civilian market.

    It's an interesting read.

(I will be buying the LMT 308 MWS 7.62MM Piston conversion kit and/or upper that I've been asking about since 2013 and in every gun show that LMT had a booth I spoke to them and asked them about a Piston MWS and always go a "No" or "It's not necessary!", since I already have the LMT MRP CQB 5.56MM with 5-barrels (2-piston 12" CL & 16" CL, 2-gas 10.5" CL & 16" SS, 1-gas 10.5" 300BLK CL). Well a Piston 7.62MM is necessary since some of us don't want to deal with gas and debris inside the action because we're getting too old and cranky to clean the damn thing every few hundred rounds. Carbon Scapers are a great invention and I have three now and all but my hands get dirty and I don't want down-time. I'd rather keep lifting weights to deal with an extra pound of steel on the front for the piston assembly than to deal with the crap inside the action! Some of us are getting old and cranky these days. We're not the young bucks in the shit on the front lines anymore!

This is for all of your picture fetishists. It's a Work-In-Progress on the accressories and the parts like the obsolete GripPod (UK) and other accessories are temporary to setup a proper color balance in the picture and accessories. (I hope you enjoy that $27 IKEA coffee table hard-wood laminate sticker background with pictures taken on a 5-year old Nexus 6P phone!)

(Magpul WTF are you doing playing with your selves and not having 7.62MM FDE colored magazines yet for us in the M118LR 2.830" COAL length available yet?! Who's ass do we have to kick to get some FDE love in here?!)

Hey, before you say anything the $200 Bushnell AR Optics AR/223 4.5-18x40mm scope with $20 UTG rings is just for intermediate distance engagement and it works well. I'm not fronting any NiteForce or US Optics hardware yet until I see what $200 vs $2,000 has to offer when punching nice little holes in paper in broad daylight. The BDC reticle is worthless for me anyway since I reload my own rounds on a beautiful Forster Co-Ax press setup with all the bells-and-wistles and I have plenty testing work to do that I'll post about!

By the way, you see that gap between the suppressor and the hand-guard, it looks damn ugly to me that's why I want that 13.5" barrel to make that whole setup tighter looking since I don't care about the minimal loss in velocity. (Don't tell me how much loss, I already checked it in QuickLOAD software for various barrel lengths and there's only 110fps loss between 16" and 13.5" on paper but would have to MagnetoSpeed check it in practice.)

Smile Added BT Atlas Bipod and Monopod, TacStar Brass-Catcher

I also added the BT Atlas BT46-LW17 quick release bipod along with the BT BT13-QK Mid-Length monopod. I ordered the Standard Size BT12-QK monopod also to get something lower for when I use different magazines than the 25-round Magpul PMAG Gen3 M118LR (2.830" COAL) ones I bought for the M118LR that I found in stock. I really wish that BT made quick-release monopod since I don't be using them all the time if I decide to use this rifle on the move.

I also added the TacStar brass catcher. I have the Caldwell brass catchers but they are soft and this one is firm so it might work better for the bigger and heavier brass. Also I added a Bumper Pad on my brass mangling knob to avoid damage to the neck and/or shoulder since I will be reloading the brass.

Still waiting for the Geissele Super Dynamic - Enhanced (SD-E) 2-Stage (~3.5lb) trigger to come back into stock or the Geissele Single Stage Precision (SSP) 1-stage (~3.5lb) to come into stock to be added.

Also, deciding on getting the 13.5" SS barrel since the CL is out of stock everywhere. I'm up to page 57 out of 77 pages of this thread trying to find out what the deal is with SS vs CL on these shorter barrels that seems to have only become generally available around ~2016-2017 and then the lightweight (LW) versions coming out shortly.

Finally, I want to get my hands on the LMT Bolt Catch so I can Dremmel-off the bar on the back and profile it to fit a Magpul Bolt Assist Device (B.A.D.) to it or the Troy or AR-STONER (Yuck) to it so I can do everything without taking my right hand off the grip. I purchased a cheap AR-STONER (Bear Creek Arsenal Rebaranded) one but a buddy of my had his AR-STONER bolt catch retention pin screw shear off the head that other folks mentioned in the reviews and this soured me on using any AR-STONER parts since I don't know if I can trust them. I bought two castle nuts and a extended duty 7071-T6 AR carbine buffer tube for my other LMT MRP CQB but now don't wish to put in inferior parts on my LMTs.

I can't wait for the piston versions so that I can have both of my LMTs in both configurations to play with. Who needs a safe full of rifles when you can have just two LMT chassis and then a bunch of barrels and bolts for each?! (Me, that's who!) I love my accessories and barrels.

Where's that 6.5 Creedmoor in stock when you need one? (Another couple of hundred gone in Forster dies for this one caliber for reloading not to mention bullets, powders, and brass!)

(Rifle is now camouflaging perfectly into my carpet! I will remove the TacStar logo once I test the brass-catcher and it works. Also I'll likely paint over the red & white safe & fire symbols on the lower since they are just so loud and gross looking, the patent numbers might have to go also since they are completely useless too. Perhaps use some soft abrasive to remove the paint without damaging the anodization on the aluminum frame.)

The SSP won’t work in the MWS.
The contour of the bottom of the bolt carrier is such that the trigger won’t reset.
I replaced mine with the Hi-Speed DMR.
