Again, seriously, ya gotta love MOM POWER HI as a mode. Makes for a great mother's day picture message for those times when you're away for mother's day due to attending a class.
Glad I could help on both fronts!

    Info

    lots of great info thanks
    I like my atilla......
but on a regular basis the ATPIAL works fine.
Something of no consequence...the fact that the atilla uses regular AA batteries is nice too.

Mounting Options for your Flashlight & Laser

Here is some useful information on mounting your flashlight and laser on your M4. This article focuses on where you should mount your flashlight and laser, positions on the tape switches for both and hand placement for recoil management.

If you have to zip tie your PEQ so be it. It's no big deal. Zip tie that sucker on then zero the laser.

I ran into a bunch of Marines the other day that had all of their PEQ 15/16s zip tied onto their weapons! SOP.

For a DBAL I2 with no IR flood

Would you prefer the IR light weapon-mounted or helmet-mounted, e.g. SF M-1? If on the M4, do you use two lights, one white and one IR or one light with dual heads or a tip-off filter. IR lights were not stressed in Chappy's March Low Light/No Light Skill Builder.

I thought the DBAL i2 had an adjustable illuminator? Is there an option for one without?

It has a green visible laser and an IR laser. No flood capability.

    Submariner,

I personally think the dual head SF weaponlights are the most ideal for the DBAL-I2 units. I have the M952V and it works well with the I2. I have the now-obsolete .7mW I2 unit and while the M952V's IR light is just a hair too bright, it still definitely works in conjunction with the I2's IR laser. The latest DBAL-I2 with its .9mW power IR laser should be perfect now with the Surefire dual output model lights. Just FYI I only bought the M952V because I got a super deal on it, but the Scout light version is a lot smaller and I will eventually get one I think.

Biggest downside of the SF IR lights though is that they spread out so much and are not concentrated in one spot, so you lose a lot of the light pretty "quickly" downrange. It's not very useful past 100 yards.

I also have TNVC's "Da Torch" IR weapon mounted light, which is much more comparable to a true PEQ-xx IR illuminator, but it damn near completely washes out the I2's IR laser. So it's not an option.

From everything I've seen, helmet-mounted IR lights like the SF M-1 are just for navigation and tasks like reading maps, not for lighting up targets downrange for engagement.

Obviously I'm NOT an expert, but I hope that helps you out at least a little bit. Maybe someone much more knowledgeable will chime in soon.

Thank you for the intro primer.

This thread is great and makes you realize how much you do not know or how much there is to know. Thanks to all the SMEs. Very interesting.

Back to reading and not posting.
