    Thanks for the kind words.
We have been looking at the T1 for about 4 months now. They have been on shotguns, M240's, M249's and M4's. We haven't seen any problems as of yet.
It is lighter and smaller and also more expensive.
If you are going to buy one, try Larue and get it with their mount (high mount for AR's).

I won't say i highly recommend it yet- i need a few more months on it, but there is nothing i have seen so far to make me think it won't be typical Aimpoint quality and usefulness.

Re the 300. Sorry- haven't used one yet.

    I am informal. I don't even own a suit!

    Sorry Pat, just one more.

Have you seen any LaRue / Pride-Fowler IronDots in your travels? How do they compare vs the T-1 Micro? Is the PF even considered a "serious" red dot?

I guess that was more than one question. Sorry for the inconvience.

    Much thanks.

The information and recommendations (especially those of Pat) in this thread motivated me to order a T-1 and the LT mount from Grant yesterday. I've tried a few Aimpoints here and there but this will be the first one I own. I really like the reticle of the EOTech (I own a 512 Rev F) and because of that I've tried to make the best of its shortcomings (controls, battery life and weight mostly) over the past couple of years. However, I've been shooting my SBR much more than my carbine lately, and I find the EOTech is just too big and too damn heavy for that application. The Aimpoint T-1 seemed like the absolutely perfect optic for it, and when I had the chance to handle one at Knob Creek this past weekend I felt confident that this would be the case. So I decided to take the plunge...

I have a feeling that in a week or two I will be fully converted to the Aimpoint camp.

    Thanks to all.

    G19A3,
The T1 is in a class by itself. I have two T1's, with 2 more coming. I'm not sure if that means anything important (except to me....)

T7- Let us know how that works out for you.

To qualify my post I used an Aimpoint for a couple years while I was in the Mil. and I used an EO 552 (pretty sure it was a Rev E) while I was working in Iraq and currently own a 553. Needles to say I prefer EOTech.

The Aimpoint and 552 saw hard FIELD use and extreme conditions. The Aimpoint in Alaska and the EO in the desert. The 553 I currently own will in reality only ever see some range time at this point in my life.

    Durability:

I've seen several knobs break of on Aimpoints. Both while in the Army and while working in Iraq (one stateside and 2 overseas). It never happened to mine though. Again this was being used in a real world environment getting banged around in typical grunt fashion. If you plan to use it for some classes and range time probably not going to be an issue and for all I know it could have been an issue that has been corrected by the company like the early cap retainers.

I have never had any problems with my EOTech. I generally shot a couple hundred rounds on most Fridays with no noticeable changes in zero even in 120+ degree heat after getting banged around and in and out of vehicles all week. It always turned on when I hit the button, no leaking or contact problems either but I will add more to that later. I should also add that this was an issued item and not brnad new so I don’t know how many thousand rounds it saw before I got my hands on it.

    Reticle:

That is personal preference obviously. Having used both I preferred the circle dot as opposed to just the dot. I found that close targets just needed to be in the circle and seems to center itself naturally and used the dot for distant targets. Another benefit, while training, shooting from a moving vehicle, which is a hard enough task in itself, it was again relatively effective to get the target in the circle. Counting hits on paper afterwards there was a noticeable difference from those using iron sites and Aimpoints. Obviously this is not scientific data just some observations on where/when the circle reticule seemed to be useful.

    Controls:

I had problems with my Aimpoint turning off (and on). If the nob was rubbed on something it would move. Again not sure if newer versions have solved this problem but it was annoying to me to bring the weapon up and notice there was no dot. I found myself being paranoid about it and checking it all the time.

I never acidentally turned my EOTech on or off. I do understand about the auto off function potentially being a PIA but that is a known variable, so every couple of hours I turn it on and off while using it. If you are grabbing and going remember to hit the button, if it's a situation where you don't have time for that use your BUIS. This is a training and knowing your equipment issue more than a design flaw in my opinion.

Finally something that caught my attention while reading some complaints about battery life or Leaking batteries etc. This to me is a maintenance issue. I often see posts about cleaning and lubing your weapon. Aren't you maintaining your optics at the same time? When you break down the weapon for daily maintenance don’t you check the battery compartment? This goes for EOTech or Aimpoint, everyone knows batteries leak and corrode. If you know that the batteries are going to die after a couple of hundred hours it only makes sense to change them every other week or sooner depending on how much you use it. All part of maintenance and a Skill Level 1 task IMHO.

To sum it up when the Aimpoint was first issued to me i thought it was the Cat's Ass. THen i was issues an EOTech and found a new favorite and taught myself how to work and maintain the equipment.

Again this is just my observations, experience and opinions. YMMV

I'm not Pat, but I saw my first and only Pride-Fowler sight in one of his classes back in April; it was in a LaRue IronDot mount, affixed to an Ultimak gas tube rail on an Arsenal SLR-106.

The owner could not get it zeroed on TD1 (ran out of elevation adjustment, IIRC), so he ditched it and ran the entire course (well, I might add) with iron sights.

    FWIW.

ETA - sorry for bringing this back from the dead... the posting dates are hard to read, what with the camouflage and all.
