I'm lost... Knife help

Look at the ESEE (RAT) knives for fixed blade.
For folders I love Spyderco. Check out their Paramilitary 2, Manix 2, and the Superleaf.

I've owned the Manix 2 and the Para2. The Para2 is my edc. or me, I found the Manix 2 to be a tad too heavy and wide. Took up to much pocket real estate.

+1 on the paramilitary 2. Awesome knife.

Becker BK7 for the large knife. Full tang, high quality steel. I can't speak for the Ontario or SOG you listed, but the Becker is by far a better choice than the other knives you listed. Just do some googling on the various survival forums out there, and you will come to the same conclusion I did.

I know you already got an ESEE, what I was gonna initially recommend, but just wanted to throw in there that the BK7 is a pretty good choice there as well.

What are yalls thoughts on the CRKT line of knives? I am usually someone that says you get what you pay for, but I owned one a couple of years ago and was thinking of getting another.

I have several CRKT products. I am currently carrying a CRKT Razel Folder (link below). It is a great knife. It is a little big for an everyday pocket knife but I am in the Stan so it does not matter. I also have one of the Fixed Blade Ringed Razels in my EDC bag. It is a great little knife for cutting and prying things open. I have been using them for about three months over here and they have held up very nicely.

Benchmade - Griptillian - I've seen this knife described as the "Glock" of knives... Its true. Two sizes to choose from, and super reliable.

+1 if you want a folder as closed to a fixed blade as you can get

With regard to folding knives, how do SOG knives compare with the other brands listed?

I have limited experience, only owned a Trident. But the edge chipped and more important than the sub-ideal steel used, the liner just did not apply enough support to the blade to make me confident in it. Felt like it would break with only a moderate pry. And the assisted opening system gave out after little use. Definitely would not buy again.

My opinions on the thread are similar to the consensus.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm definitely going with an ESEE when I buy a fixed blade. Might even get more than one before it's over with. The Spyderco knives I've owned have never let me down or disappointed me in the least so I'll probably stick with what I already know to be good.

A little off topic, but does anyone know of a good honest-to-God boot knife? I don't mean a knife the size of a boot knife, but one that comes with a sheath that's actually made to go on your boot. I don't want to have to buy a knife and then have a sheath custom made separately. I used to have a Camillus boot knife, but mine was bought before they started making the sheaths out of kydex. (I don't think they make the same knife at all any more.) Eventually the sheath loosened up pretty bad and after riding my motorcycle to work one day I realized the knife was gone. I've tried a couple of Smith & Wesson boot knives over the past year or so, but they're either too heavy, or the sheath doesn't secure the knife well enough, or the sheath won't stay on my boot for one reason or another.

The Gerber Guardian, Cold Steel Braveheart and SOG Mini-Pentagon all come with sheaths intended for that use....and they all suck at it. For the money though, they're great blades.

You're not going to find any production knife with a high quality, minimal sheath...certainly not for less than the combined cost of a Guardian/Braveheart/Mini-Pentagon and a BladeRigs sheath.

You can have both the blade and the sheath on your door within a week or so. Can't beat that.
